Where You Least Expect It

I’m feeling overwhelmed.  In no particular order (but they are related), I’m wrestling with the ever growing tax burden of the farm, blogging and the way I spend my time and what I want for my future.  Nothing remarkable or out of the ordinary but sometimes my thoughts start to circle and drag me down.

Monday was one of those days.  Mountain Man was busy, the dogs were entranced with what he was doing and I was brooding.  My faults were creating an insurmountable tower in my head.  I headed out to sit on the trailer and have a good cry.  I wanted to be alone.

Khrysta must have heard my sobs because the next thing I knew she had climbed up on the side of the trailer and was trying to nuzzle me.  If you’ve noticed my header photos, the trailer has become her favorite toy in our clicker training escapades.

“Go away.  I’m not in the mood to play.  Just leave me alone.”  I went back to my crying and she jumped down.

I put my head in my lap and cried even harder.

Two things happened simultaneously.  I heard a big clunk and the front of the trailer (with me on it) was lifted into the air. What was happening?  It was 1,100 pound Khrysta who had decided to climb on the back of the trailer. Then off she went and thud, my end of the trailer went down.  Back on she came and there I went up again.

Off and on went Khrysta and up and down I went.  In my wildest dreams, I had never imagined playing seesaw with a horse.  It was such a blast.  I started laughing and the harder I laughed the more she bounced me up and down.

With each bounce, another chink of the tower of despair tumbled.

“Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.”  Plato

Today I found kindness from a complicated, wonderful mare named Khrysta and for the moment my burden is lighter.

OMG – How wonderful that must have been. Animals are so intuitive and I swear they can read our thoughts. Khrysta loves you so much, she didn't want you to be sad. I'm sorry you've been feeling so sad lately. This time of year is so difficult for so many people. I have heard a little saying though that might help: "Let go and let God." Just let go of all the worries that you have and let God help sort things out. Things always work out in the end. Even if you don't believe in God, if you believe that there is a Universal Life Force that surrounds us, let go of your sorrows and worries and let The Universe handle things – you'd be amazed at how well this works. It took me a LONG time to let go but I'm so glad I have. Warm hugs my friend.

Before I read your post my first impression was it reminded me of Pippi Longstocking! And sure enough it was a certainly a day that Pippi would of had. I'm hoping you have a better week. Trials are so hard. Our animals are so intuitive, we're blessed to know them.

Krysta, The Seesaw Horse – This would make a fabulous children's story!
I knew cats and dogs had incredibly intuitive natures adn sensitivity for their pets (uh, owners,) but I never would thought the same could be said for horses. She certainly earned her favorite treat today!

If it makes you feel any better. I am way over whelmed too and I want to just sit down and cry also. Don't worry, I'm sure things will get better!

I think you are missing Red Pine Mountain. Khrysta probably was telling you she is too. But she is finding things that bring joy to her life "in the now." You are there for each other.
Animals are so very awesome. Could we imagine our lives without them?
Nope.
Blessings to you my friend, Misha

A kind word and a smile and a horse playing teeter toter with you can sure help put things in perspective! When I start feeling blue, from now on I'll remember Khrysta and you playing seesaw. Thanks for sharing your story.

Okay, Mountain Woman, you recognize it, if you are creating you sorrow, just stop to do it!
Sometimes when I do the same, and it's too late because I'm wrapped in it, I sleep and when I awake I'm refreshed.
And bravo to Krysta, she knew well what to do!

If He could open the mouth of a donkey to speak to Balaam before he made a huge mistake (Numbers 22:21-33), of what trouble would it be to our Heavenly Father to have Khrysta play with you during a time of sorrow? Nonetheless, I can certainly understand your feelings of being overwhelmed. For I have been there many times myself. Hey, come to think of it, He has never sent a donkey or a horse to my rescue! What makes you so special?

Oh what a wonderful moment! I was laughing so hard it brought a tear to my eye. To think she cares so much that she would play like that. Absolutely shows the intelligence and compassion of horses. Fabulous!
Have a happy day with that wonderful mare of yours (we should all be so blessed)!

I understand how you feel, because I am in the same position just now and because the problem is so large, I have just placed it in God's hands and it felt as though a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. He knows how much we can handle and in those times where it feels like we are just too overwhelmed to continue, He provides us comfort. In your case, I believe it was Khrysta.
I will be praying for you and your situation.

Horses can be incredibly perceptive. They have that special sense (horse sense?) and Khrysta knew just what you needed. Maybe that's why horses are so healing in the program (Instride Equine Therapy) for children with autism,Downs Syndrome, retardation and mental and physical handicaps. Horses make great therapist. :)

That is a wonderful story! It's hard to be sad with animals around!

I know obstacles always seem insurmountable at the time, but when you look back on them, we very often marvel at how small they were in the bigger scheme of things…
