“Unwritten”

Morning rituals; do you have them? What would they look like? Here’s ours:

Stumble into the kitchen grab a cup of coffee.

Weather Channel for Mountain Man; email and Facebook for me.

One cup of coffee down and I feed the dogs. Mountain Man keeps on watching The Weather Channel.

Dogs done eating, Mountain Man takes 3 of them for a walk. I stay behind with the others, give them a biscuit and plop my expanding posterior back on the computer.

Routine, comforting, familiar? Or not?

Perhaps not at the moment. I am confused or maybe it’s writer’s block or maybe I’m just getting old.

I decide to sign up for another writing seminar guaranteed to help your thoughts flow, get you writing again. I’m excited about it until I see the $800.00 price tag. I think about how many bales of hay I can buy for 800.00, how much chicken feed, how many bags of groceries. Needs or wants? I stick with needs like food

Long standing blogs go through growing pains, days when you question what the heck you are doing and why. I’m in the middle of one of those periods now.

I decide to change my routine. It seems timely. It’s a chilly morning, 45 to be exact. I grab a sweatshirt and my biscuit loving group. “What are you doing?” their eyes say as they stare pleadingly at the biscuit jar.

“It will be good for us. You’ll see.” And while they are not exactly convinced, they follow me.

It’s foggy out. And cold.

We venture down the driveway. The dogs are excited by the change. The mist starts to lift.

For some reason, the lyrics to “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield run through my mind. “I am unwritten, can’t read my mind, I’m just beginning, the pen’s in my hand, ending unplanned.” Summer is at an end here. What lies around the corner?

“Reaching for something in the distance so close you can almost taste it…”

“No one else can feel it for you. Only you can let it in. No one else can speak the words for you.”

“Sometimes my tries are outside the lines. We’ve been conditioned not to make mistakes but I can’t live that way.”

“No one else can speak the words on your lips. Drench yourself in words unspoken. Live your life with arms wide open. “Today is where your book begins.”

“The rest is still unwritten.”

It’s up to each of us how we face our challenges each day, whether we let negativity into our lives or whether we look at life as an adventure, yet unwritten, and embrace life. If today is where your book begins, what will it say?

Your blog certainly inspires me to “write” my day a bit better.

Your pictures are great! My dogs have their routine in the morning. The first thing they do after a quick squat is check what other animals have been in their domain over night. I often wish they could tell me what they know. Especially when they all gather together to smell a spot.

Oh boy what would it say?
On one hand – Yesterday I saw a video on election fraud. Today I saw a video on the failing economy. My current contract does not have funding, but they haven’t told us to leave – yet. The contract I don’t really want to work on isn’t funded either, but looms out there with dread.
On the other hand – My farm is a sanctuary. I love listening to nature, watching the animals, trying new recipes, and “helping” FabHub when I can.
The hands are connected, there is only one body. I need to figure out how to cleanse the one in order to really enjoy the other.
Thanks for the thought invoking post.

Just can’t stay away from blogging, can you? See, it’s in your blood and has its hooks in you! My morning starts off at the computer too after I get dressed and feed my cats and dog.

It’s good to shake things up now and then though. Sometimes I’ll go walking with Gerard and our dog, Abby and sacrifice some of my morning computer time.

Great post—the pictures made me feel like I was right there in the mist with you. If I started writing a book today I am unsure of what it would be about but most likely it would encompass family. Loved the post today–thanks for the inspiration!

Today’s post was like poetry with feelings and meanings. Both inspiring and thought provoking.

At the moment I’m flummoxed as to what path I want to take. Frustrated by the fact that I could not even sign-in to my yahoo email this morning. Kept telling me “invalid ID or password” and nothing I tried changed things … so for now I’m “invalid” and trying to figure out how to cancel my yahoo account if I can’t even access it. Don’t cha just love modern technology ? LOL

It’s just starting to show fall here..I’m seeing some color coming into the trees.

Love your Vermont days, and your Vermont blog…heck…I love you, Moutain Woman! You allow us to see your struggles giving us permission to face our own.

The pictures are absolutely beautiful, with the fog!

My morning ritual varies a bit but I definitely start with about 16 ounces of good strong French roast coffee and an hour at the computer.

Now that I actually have my ticket for India October 23rd, I feel more a sense of haste to get things done – got to get things sold on Craig’s List, things packed and moved to storage, last minute tasks done, etc, etc. I am getting excited.
