This and That

Well, I know I’ve been complaining about the weather a lot lately and if you consider it’s still snowing off and on and we’re headed down to 12 tonight, I have things to complain about but from reading your comments so do lots of you. Spring will be here sometime (maybe) and in an effort to keep my spirits up, I’ve turned to other things besides my whining. I’ve been reading a lovely book entitled “Earth Prayers” and thought I’d share one with you.
Grant me the ability to be alone,
May it be my custom to go outdoors each day
among the trees and grasses,
among all the growing things
and there may I be alone,
and enter into prayer
to talk with the one
that I belong to
By Rabbi Nachman of Bratzlav (1772-1810)
I think as this winter has dragged on, I’ve let my daily ritual of going outdoors to give thanks slide. I am reminded once again how important it is to be grateful for all that I have.
And spring is coming because last night when I went to do barn chores, I saw an object in the field. A coyote I do believe. He was there again this morning so I grabbed my camera and used the zoom lens.

The horses aren’t scared of him. In fact, they are keeping him from coming nearer the barn and having turkey snacks.
Here he is leaving.

Whatever kind of creature he is, he is definitely a sign of spring. And that means the bears will be out of hibernation soon. Mountain Man says they retain memory of places they’ve been so perhaps my bear will return to visit again.
Next, it was off to help a friend fix a roof. The roads aren’t exactly muddy at the moment cause they are frozen and there is snow all over.

Mountain Man gets out his piece of metal and goes to work.

Up and down the roof he went.

Measuring and cutting.

And hammering and fixing.

And I could show you about 100 pictures of this but I won’t. I’d rather show you a picture of an adorable Purple Passion face.

And if you were our neighbor and needed help, Mountain Man would be over in a flash armed with tools, steel, wood or whatever you needed because that’s who he is. His generous heart is one of the reasons I adore him.
And me, I’m reading prayers, observing nature oh so quietly start to wake up and giving thanks for all the good and wonderful people who surround me.
Have a fabulous weekend one and all and thanks for visiting us!

Don’t feel bad, I think we all are complaining of the very long winter! We don’t have much snow but every time we turn around it seems like we are getting flurries! Hang in there! I love purple passion face.

Howdy, you got a red fox not a coyote. They are wise and will think about how to get to your fowl. Might have a den nearby and cubs to feed, too.

I thought it was a fox too–by the coloring. Protect the turkeys!!!

I’m glad we don’t get that sign of spring here in Cleveland! I like going to the zoo to see the wild animals instead of them coming to my home to visit like they do there.

The fox is beautiful! And hungry, I bet…
Just stopped by to tell you I enjoy your blogposts very much! I don’t have a lot to say, but I do read them.

Winter for about one more week here in Iowa. I think the April 15th date for putting away winter clothes works for our area as well. I am so ready for spring even if it is mud season. Great blog!

I think Vermonters truly must depend on each other a great deal. Being a good neighbor is of the utmost importance. I agree, that does look like a red fox. Beautiful and, being a good mama, she is probably look for baby food.

Sure looks like a fox to me. Not sure how your blog slipped off my list of regulars to visit. I’m going to get it back in my queue right now.

It is certainly a beautiful fox and certainly an animal you want to keep as far away as possible from your Poultry Palace.
Glad to hear you’re starting to see faint signs of spring up on your mountain. May the crocuses and daffodils be plentiful.

What a beautiful fox you have there! We have one here where I live in Northern Virginia of all places! But, once in a while you will see him . . .

Pretty pics. Pretty fox! But doesn’t Mountain Man wear gloves when he works outdoors? And, with cold metal, to boot?! My hands started feeling cold just looking at that picture!
