Then And Now

Thanks everyone for visiting us and taking the time to leave comments. Both Mountain Man and I always appreciate your interest. I’ve had quite a few requests for more information on the solar kiln and the pallets and I plan to do a more technical post on those this weekend.

I love blogging. I have made incredible friendships over the past couple of years. And the other reason I love my blog is because I can go back in time and tell exactly what we were doing each month.

January, 2010 found us in the Ozarks. We were supposed to be headed home to Vermont but snowstorm after snowstorm along our route prevented us from leaving.

While I went hiking with Logan in our field and he was carrying his usual stick,

Mountain Man was hard at work in the basement.

Home in Vermont this year, I went hiking in the woods with Logan waiting for me to throw the ever present stick,

While Mountain Man was hard at work in my tack room building an insulated room for the heater to save money on electric costs.

In the Ozarks, I would gaze back at our ranch house covered in snow and think how lovely it was.

While Mountain Man was hard at work in the living room.

This year in Vermont, I gaze down on our farm, lost in its beauty and think how lucky I am to live here,

While Mountain Man is hard at work putting up more firewood.

In the Ozarks, I admired sunrises that bathed the sky in pink,

While Mountain Man was hard at work creating a new bedroom and bathroom and chopping up concrete by hand.

And now, in Vermont, I gaze upon beautiful sunrises,

While Mountain Man is hard at work building his latest invention. This time, his solar kiln.

Mountain Man; industrious, hard working, focused, accomplishing goals every day. Me, the dreamer, gazing on nature in all its majesty, lost in thought.

I have learned it doesn’t matter where we roam. Places might change, times might change but we remain essentially the same. I can tell you life is a true gift and each moment precious whether you are as focused as Mountain Man or a wanderer like me.

Enjoy your day and thanks so much for visiting Red Pine Mountain.

I have truly learned to be content in what ever state I’m in. Whether it be watching the neighborhood activity from my front patio or busily working on a project like Carl. There are times I even take a break from busyness to look at the wonderful color of the tulips or the dazzling smell from the peonias. It’s taken 60 years but I’ve learned to slow down and enjoy life more and the best thing in life is relationships both long term and newly aquired. With the advent of the Internet it’s so easy to find friends that perhaps I’ll never meet but they input into my life in so many wonderful ways. Sara and Carl, you are both those kind of people. I’m glad we connected this last year.

Have a great building (Carl) and observing (Sara) Day.

Logan looks great against the snow!

And the scenic photos around the farm are just wonderful.

It seems to me the two of you are beautifully matched and you accept each others differences which is what makes your relationship work so well. It is always a joy to visit your Vermont kingdom.

Seems the old adage is true; “The more things change; the more they stay the same.” A mountain home is a mountain home, Logan must have his stick, a beautiful sunset is beautiful no matter where it’s at, you will always be the dreamer, the wanderer, finding beauty in everything around you, and Mountain Man will always be Mountain Main, building, refurbishing, inventing and making your dreams come true. God bless you both.

Hello Sara,
After reading your last two posts I am realizing that we are very much alike. I’m also a dreamer…always have been. My hubby is hard working both at work and at home here on the farm. Even after breaking his back and having two back surgeries he still amazes me.He does have his bad days and can’t do as much as he’d like to but he still manages to do something. I have a good life here in the country and I appreciate it ever day. Thank you for your beautiful blog and for letting us into your lives just a little bit. I hope you and your mountain man have a wonderful weekend Sara. Take care.
Maura :)
