I’ve got to admit I’ve got a bad case of the blogging blahs but I miss reading your comments so I decided to post once again.
Last time I left you, we were buried under a massive spring snowstorm. Mountain Man had been planning a trip to the Ozarks to work on the house and decided to delay his trip until the worst was over. But as soon as he was sure I’d be okay, no snow gathered under his feet as he packed the trailer with the coffin box and all the flooring he had made for the Ozarks’ house. He was more than ready to enjoy warmer climates and me, well, I was thrilled to be staying on the farm with the rapidly disappearing snow.

He’s driven the two day trip so many times I wasn’t really worried about him until the phone rang the next day.
“I can’t talk now but are you watching the Weather Channel?”
“No, I’ve been out in the barn.” My new home since the minis arrived.
“I didn’t want you to worry in case you were watching television. They’re showing Gainesville (the city nearest our Ozarks’ ranch) right now.”
“Why?” I dumbly asked.
“Well, a tornado just went through. We (he has two of our dogs with him) had just gotten there but we made it home.” (Our ranch is about 20 miles away.) We’re headed into the storm cellar now but we’ll be fine but you wouldn’t believe the lightening. It’s worse than I’ve ever seen.”
I turned on the Weather Channel and was glued to the coverage and sure enough they were showing our part of Missouri. After being caught in a tornado two years ago when we were in the Ozarks, I know enough to be sure I never want to experience that again. A town close to us was decimated and people were killed. Tornadoes are a force of nature unlike any other.
Long story short, Mountain Man and the dogs are fine but my heart and prayers go out to all the people who have lost loved ones and their homes in these terrible storms.
And, here in Vermont, the weather turned unseasonably warm and we actually went up into the 80s this weekend and today thunderstorms are brewing.

Every night, Mountain Man calls and tells me how wonderful it is there, how warm it is, how the flowers are blooming and the trees full of leaves and oh, did he say how warm it is and there’s no snow. But then he tells me of tiny ticks attached to all parts of his body that he washes off with bleach at night and chigger bites that are itching like crazy and I am once again glad I’m not there. Give me snow and freezing weather any day.
And me, well, I’ve been busy working with Bliss. She decided Khrysta was in charge and I was a terrifying human to be avoided at all costs. She would run when she saw me and would make sure Khrysta was between the two of us at all times. I knew I had to change her mind so with the help of Khrysta, I lured her into the barn. I’ve been working with her every day with her and now she’s my shadow.

She’s very curious about the camera.

But after we’re done, I turn her out with her best friend once again.

I’ll leave you with one last picture of our beautiful Northeast Kingdom sky, not photoshopped, just as the lens captured it in all its beauty today. Okay, I know I go on and on and I admit I’m prejudiced but I do love this farm.

Now, please tell me how things are with you.

As you should love your farm! I get very attatched to property and houses. They become a huge piece of us, don’t they?!
We lost our home to Hurricane Frances in 2004. Horrid. But, I would rather go through a hurricane than a tornado. We knew it was coming for 4 days, and had time to pack what items were precious that we could haul away!
Us, a horse trailer, a 150 pound dog, cats, ferrets…and my Nana’s sewing machine! We really looked like the Beverly Hillbillies rolling out of south Florida!
I am so very glad to hear all are ok
Also, happy to know the wee ones are coming around! They got the best home ever!!!!!!!!!!

I can never get enough of your farm, so I know how attached you must be; that sky!
We were in that same storm system, but no tornadoes touched down, thank goodness. However, we are now experiencing record flooding from the torrential rains. There’s been nothing but flood coverage on tv for two full days now, and, just like 9/11, I can’t stop watching. Just awful.
Glad to hear Mountain Man and the dogs are fine!

Your sky looks beautiful and it’s so nice you were able to stay on your farm while Mountain Man went off to the Ozarks to work on the house. Too bad he missed your 80 degree temperatures though. So glad he is okay–between snow or tornadoes, I’d choose snow every time. Those bugs sound terrible too–they really ruin a good day.

I’d stay with you and bypass the fleas and other biting critters. Yikes.
I’m very glad everything turned out okay.
Have a terrific day.

I’m guessing he de-ticks the dogs too. That was some brutal weather they had. I don’t like hurricanes but will take one of them any day over a twister. We have tornadoes in these parts too. That little Miss Bliss is a real cutie pie. In the high 90s today and still hot this evening. Seems the AC just keeps running on and on. Glad all is welll with you and the gang! I wouldn’t leave there either!

I’ve been on a blogging break too. I do miss everyone. Your pictures are great and I’m glad all is well there. :O)

I am so glad he is okay! How scary, I hope to never experience a tornado. I am with you, give me NE weather any day!!!
Your pictures are always so amazing. Enjoy the warm weather

Weird weather this spring, I am glad that Mountain Man and the dogs are ok! That was some load of flooring..that should keep him busy a few days. I think it is great that you are working with Bliss..I bet it is funtoo! She is pretty cute!
We are cold near freezing and damp and rainy here..but we needed the moisture:)

I’m glad to hear that Mountain Man is okay. That would be a terrifying thing to experience. I’ll stick to what I’m used to: Earthquakes. I wouldn’t even want to live in tornado country, but if I did, you can be sure that I would have a storm cellar. Please tell him to stay safe over there and I wish you continued success with the training. After you finish with Bliss, I really would like to see you clicker-train a cow to walk downstairs

Tornadoes…..they bring on the shivers everytime I hear of them.
I.do.not.like.them.
May they have safe return to your beautiful Vermont mountain!

MW, this Spring seems to be a violent Spring. So far we have been avoiding the bad weather here in Nebraska. I really feel for those folk s in Nashville. They are having quite a time. I think that floods are the worst thing ever. It just destroys everything including property.
Your pictures of the farm in Vermont always make me envious. However, I do love Nebraska. I did move away for about seven years and lived in St. Louis, MO. When I moved back to Nebraska, I vowed never to move away again. I just love the very distinct seasons here. It’s just what I’ve grown to love and even though the Winters can be bad like last Winter, it just makes the Spring even more precious.
It looks as though you have found a passion in your life with the new additions to the farm animals. They are cute for sure. They seem to have settled in quite well and will be a good addition to the farm family for years to come.
I’m still working around the urban ranch on summer projects. Today will be a good day to mow the grass which is the major crop grown in urban America. I try to compost most of the clippings but by the middle of summer it gets to be too much. We have here in Nebraska a recycle center that picks up yard waste on trash day and turns it into compost. They sell it back to the public. It’s the best stuff and relatively cheap in the bulk.
Have a great day and I’m glad MM is safe.

so glad to see that the little one is getting more comfortable with you. Our new goat feels the same way about us-I am trying to work with her with the help of the rest of our friendly goats. Lots of treats, too.

I swear the seasons are not like they used to be and that really makes me concerned sometimes. Years ago you new what spring was like you knew what summer was like and so on but, now it changes so much.
I feel our planet is changing and all those idiots in Washington don’t know what they are talking about. They say the global warming is a farse well I say they are full of !@#$
Now that I am done ranting I am glad the hear Mountain man and the dogs are ok. If you need anything while he is gone you call me, I am only a short 4. something hours away.

I am so glad to hear that mountain man and the dogs are okay. He sure does have a load in that picture! Why is that called a coffin box? At our quilt guild meeting a lady showed us a quilt she made as a cover for her coffin box. I thought, coffin box???

I agree– I live about 250 miles directly west of you, and the Northeast has the best weather in the country. No big bugs, no tornadoes, no hurricanes, no earthquakes! Our only natural disasters are the politicians, Lord save us from the politicians!
Your horse is adorable.

Give Miss Bliss a big hug from me. We do miss her, Trey & Tigger but they have a great new home with you. I’m glad to hear she’s your shadow though there’s nothing wrong with having Khrysta as her buddy. She needs to know you’re her momma!
Those tornadoes last weekend were something else, & they’ve reported 13 were identified here in Arkansas as of today’s news. Glad Mountain Man and the 2 dogs made it to MO alright.
Have a blessed week!

Awwww, that Bliss is a cutie!
And I agree, your farm is very beautiful. But I like the beauty where I live, too! Especially our rugged year-round snow-capped mountains.

Once again, so very lovely and makes me so very envious. Especially your little shadow, she really tugs my heart strings! So glad Mountain Men and the dogs were okay!

Beautiful pictures! You are truly blessed…

I wanted to tell you that when I get chigger bites, I paint them with clear nail polish. They die because they can’t get oxygen. I got bitten last summer, all over my body. Not fun.
