Share Your Hearts Giveaway Contest Opens; A Mother’s Day Celebration

Before we get to the Share Your Hearts Giveaway, I’d like to mention another contest running on one of my favorite blogs, “Life on a Southern Farm.” If you have chickens and would like a chance to win a nest box made by a very special Farm Man, head on over to enter by clicking HERE.

I am very excited to share with you a fantastic Etsy boutique this month, namely “Five O’Clock Somewhere.” Not only is Tara an accomplished horsewoman, she also creates incredible jewelery. Now, Mother’s Day is fast approaching and wouldn’t it be wonderful to win a handcrafted piece to give as a gift? Here are the details:

1. The contest opens today and will run through April 30, 2009.

2. There will be TWO winners selected.

3. Each winner will be able to select her choice of any of Tara’s very special pieces.

4. Now, you know there’s more involved than just writing your name in the comments. I would like each one of you who enters to share a story about an important woman in your life. Perhaps it is your mother, your mother-in-law, your grandmother. The choice is yours. You can write a paragraph or a page, your choice.

After the contest ends, I will share your stories with my readers.

Now, if you would like to earn FIVE extra chances to win, you can do so by linking back to my 100th post celebration and encouraging your readers to drop by and leave a comment for our men and women in uniform. You can find that post by clicking HERE. If you decide to do a link back, let me know you have done so and I’ll make sure you have the extra entries.

I’m excited to read your stories as you share your hearts about the women who are so dear to you.

I have so many special women in my life…grown daughters, best friends, mentors from church, but I would be truly remiss, if I didn’t mention my mother-in-law. We are all a crazy bunch in my family, and the following will prove it.
My parents divorced when I was about 9 years old. My mother quickly remarried, but my father took a little time to find the “Right” woman. And boy did he do a good job! Jan had two boys, and the older boy and I hit it off, from the get go. So much so in fact, that 8 months after our parents got married to each other…we got married. So my mother-in-law, could also be considered my step mother.
She has been a mother to me, in every sence of the word. And now she is a grand mother and great grand mother…and she is adored by all of the children!

My paternal grandmother was a strong, brave and very funny woman. She married a coal miner and lived in northern England. She gave birth to my dad and then to his sister, my aunt, who was born ‘handicapped’. Back then – in the 1930s – they wanted to leave the new baby to die. My gran was having none of that and my aunt was treated just like any other kid, although she couldn’t walk and had a crooked back.

Things didn’t work out with my granddad, so she left and brought up two kids single-handed – which was nearly unheard of back in those days.

Instead of encouraging my dad to go into coal mining, which was the only option, she fed his dreams and he went onto to become a diplomat.

While my parents were abroad, she and my aunt (who lived together all their lives) took all four of us kids in and looked after us in the half-terms when we couldn’t fly over to stay with our parents.

She is dead, but her spirit lives on! I’ll never forget this wonderful woman.

Wow! This is so awesome!

This woman would be my mother of course! She has been married to my father for 56 years raised 5 children as 16 grandchildren, and has 2 greatgrand children. She was always home to take care of us. She has always helped my father run his dream business and now faithfully takes care of him everyday….(He is suffering from stage 4 NONE smokers lung cancer. (I must add he is doing remarkably well;) YAY! Everyone says my dad is amazing…and he is BUT! my mother is truly the “Wind beneath his WINGS!” He is the dreamer, she is the realist….she keeps everyone in the family grounded and she gets everyone motivated. She will tell you the truth….even when it will cost her. I am now proud to say…She is my friend….but when I was a little girl she was my mother and that didn’t waver. She loves a good debate, politics and life. She can bake one heck of a chocolate cake! make you a gourmet meal and set the prettiest table you have ever seen. Because of my mother I believe we still have our father……she is the fabric in our family. She is an amazing woman….Thank you for allowing me to think about this…….I know it all needs work. But, I need to hit comment…I have kids waiting for me~

I think I will post a mothers day thank you to my mom. She should know how amazing she is to me;)

THank you for this!

Hello,
I wanted to tell you about the very special woman in my life. It happens to be my mother in law. I know what you are thinking, mother in laws really get a bad wrap. My MIL is such a blessing to me. I honestly don’t know where I would be without her. So many times she has driven an hour and a half to see the kids accept an award at school, or just to see what we are doing. She brings us groceries, just because she can she says. I have learned not to argue with her about this. She spoils the kids, without “spoiling” them. She is a fantastic mother to her 2 sons, and a perfect mother figure in my life. As I said, I don’t know what I would do without her in our lives. She was there when I delivered all 3 of my children, and stayed with us for a week after each one came home from the hospital to help out. Believe it or not, she even helped me to breastfeed when my oldest wouldn’t latch on. She is always just a phone call away. I love her more than she will ever know. Thank you for letting me share this.
