Raising Money For Charity Through Comments

Ron, a fellow Vermonter, left a comment on my blog about the recent weather, “Impressive (and more and more as I’m concerned) oppressive.” And I have to admit, when I woke to snow again this morning, I have to agree. I’m hoping the old adage “March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb” is going to prove true.

While I was wandering the blogosphere, I came across a fantastic idea on Karen Zemek’s blog, namely for every comment made, she donates money to charity and each month she chooses a different charity to support. I was so excited by the idea, I asked if I could borrow it. I love comments, love hearing from you and reading your thoughts and what if every time you left a comment, you were also helping a worthy cause? Sounds like a win-win situation to me.

So, starting tomorrow, March 1st, for every comment you leave on any section of this blog, I pledge to donate .25 to The Wounded Warrior Project. As a navy wife, I have a special place in my heart for servicemen, veteran’s and their families. If you want to learn more about The Wounded Warrior Project, you can click HERE.

Now, I did read that a famous blogger had done comments for charity once in the past and the cynics out there thought it was a ploy to get people to click on her blog to make more money through page views. So in an attempt at full disclosure:

I get NO money when you view this blog.

And I appreciate your camera suggestions. The lens is definitely scratched and we’re going to see if anything can be done.

Thanks everyone for visiting us. Your comments make my day. And Karen, I LOVE this idea and hope it spreads throughout the blogosphere. Think about what a difference we could all make.

“I expect to pass through this world just once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

Stephen Grellet (1773-1855) Quaker missionary

Great idea. I hope that many other bloggers catch on to this idea.

The weather here in Nebraska is a big tease this spring. One day it will be in the 50s and the next 20s with snow. I’m hoping that it won’t be long now before I can get out into the yard start doing some serious yard and garden work.

Have a great closer to spring day.

Boy, I think we all are getting tired of the snow, the winter months have been with us long enough. You are such a dear person and that is a great idea!

It thrilled all the way to my toes when I read on Linda’s CO blog that she seen robins!!! It assured me spring is on its way…even tho it may not be showing signs here in SD.
The snow we had on Sautrday was such pretty snow. It was big fluffy flakes that landed on the ground in front of you instead of flying past your nose at 25 mph!! And it didnt stick to the roads so all was good.
Comments for charity is a great idea! Great charity too.

Thanks for helping spread this idea! I’m mentioning you are doing this too in my Friday “Things I Learned This Week Post.”

I love that quote you mentioned at the end! I don’t get money from my blogs either.

Isn’t it sad that when people try to do good, there’s always the cynics who come behind and try to bring them down?

I think this is a fabulous idea and something I’ll definitely consider :D

Cheers!

It’s a wonderful idea and one that I know truly comes from your heart.
I’ve seen a few blogs with those “Donate” buttons and though I understand that some blogs do take resources to produce, such as educational or tutorial sites, I’ve always pondered over why anyone would place one on their own blog…unless it was clearly stated that donations were going to a specific charity. Of course there are some who are trying to make a living on the web but at a penny a click it would take awhile…especially for my blog :D …to make a buck !

I’m sorry to hear that the turkey beak actually scratched your camera lens. Hopefully there’s a way to buff it out as lenses and cameras are expensive to replace.

Hi Mountain Woman :) :)

How is the search for a new camera going? Will you get the same type of camera or something with more bells and whistles? I’m thinking about getting a new one myself someday, but that will have to wait awhile :) :)

I couldn’t find your page on Facebook today :( :( I was really sad. I hope everything is going okay in your neck of the woods. Send me a private email if you’d like!!!

Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
