Rain, Rain and More Rain

Have you heard about the East Coast rain storm? Well, it’s really been something and we were right in the middle of it. Wednesday morning, when we woke up, the sky looked like this

And then the rain started pounding and before I knew it, our previously dry stream looked like this

I’ve never seen it rain so hard for so many days. The roads washed out and our internet was down. Oh, what to do?

KT-Whippet took to her pink princess bed.

I was going stir crazy in the house so I went for a walk and it was incredibly beautiful.

I found the guineas and the turkeys attempting to carve a raft from a pumpkin.

But the more practical (or perhaps lazier) chickens decided to take shelter in the wood shed.

And just when we thought we were going to float away, we woke up this morning and the sun was shining once again.

And although we are fine here on our mountain, many people are not so lucky and have had their homes devastated by the storm. So we say to any rain that is thinking about heading our way in the next few days, take that.

I hope you are all well and dry and missed the wrath of this storm. Thanks for visiting us!

Hope it doesn’t make all the leaves fall . I’ll be in Rye, NH 3 weeks from today and on my birthday, no less! Lovin’ the turkey’s tail shot! Give Faedon a hug and kiss for me.

Love your humor! “carving a raft from the pumpkin” and “take that” turkey tail.

I guess if a person is not used to a lot of rain, a storm like that can really get to them. We’ve been having Indian summer here in Seattle–beautiful, sunny, warm days. And we’re loving it!

I’ve been out of the Blogland loop for so long, I’ve missed a lot.posts. But I have a few minutes right now, so I’m trying to touch base with all my favorite blogs. I tried to post something a couple weeks ago on my own blog, but the video was too long and I haven’t yet learned how to shorten it. :-(

Your pictures are, as usual, beautiful. We finally got some much needed rain yesterday. We have been under a burn ban. Combines have been having a problem with catching the corn they are picking on fire. It is awful.

The weather is cooler here and I am enjoying getting some things done outdoors.

This was so funny!

Your colors are already gorgeous – here, we’re having our first REALLY cool day. (Translation: the day when EVERYONE, not just ME, thinks it cold.) I went out with the dogs this morning in short sleeves and Crocs; turned right around and came back out in long sleeves, wooly scarf, gloves, jacket, and CROCS WITH SOCKS. It’s 61 degrees and cloudy, which makes it seem even colder. And we have temps in the 30′s overnight predicted for this week.

There go my flowers.

We had another poor rooster in a box at the post office one night this week, and I told everybody about what you’d passed on – the horrible blender story. No one knew, and three people among us currently have chickens. Thanks for the info; you’ve made a group of Tennesseans think twice.

Speaking of Tennessee, we’d be THRILLED to have you and MM here! Our county (Cheatham) is the only one surrounding Nashville that is still relatively undeveloped, and there is practically no traffic leading up our way. And the farther you get from the cities, of course, the more reasonably priced land is. Consider the Dover/Paris area – beautiful, especially Paris Landing, which is at the southern edge of Land Between the Lakes.

No sure you can find anything to rival Vermont, though.

I’m glad to hear that all the water ran down the creek and that you didn’t have any building damage. So many farther south from you had much more problems with flooding. Mountain Man is right about having a zoo at your place. It must keep you busy caring for all the different animals. We haven’t had rain here in weeks. However the plants and lawns are running quite good on residual ground water.

Have a great dry day.

Here in Upstate NY, some areas got close to 5 inches!

It’s been a rainy decade. Just amazing, all this rain. Thank God, my basement didn’t flood! I am ready for a dry, sunny spell of weather…. sigh…

The pictures are beautiful, rain or shine. Here in northern CA, it’s been beautiful and I had a wonderful 66th birthday, even if I wasn’t in Rome.

What beautiful, if wet, photos. Those turkeys building an ark out of a pumpkin are a hoot.

Hope you’re enjoying some finer and drier weather now.

It pays to live on a mountain….although, mountains in our area are known for mud slides and flash floods!

I’m glad you are all safe!!!!
