Preparing to Say Goodbye

It’s almost time to say goodbye to Red Pine Mountain for the winter.  Mountain Man is already on his way home from the Ozarks anxious to get all of us on the road before weather becomes an issue.  We might be here for another week as we prepare the farm for our absence and Mountain Man finishes a few chores.  The countdown has begun.

In the Ozarks, Mountain Man was busy preparing the pasture for Khrysta and cleaning out the old barn which hasn’t been occupied in years.  Every night, he’d tell me about the 70 degree weather and I’d tell him about the beautiful frosts here.

I’ve been busy trying to get organized to leave but my biggest concern has been for Khrysta on this long trip.  The vet came.  I learned if we traveled across state lines without a current health certificate and we were stopped, Khrysta and the trailer would be impounded.  I asked him question after question on how to make the trip comfortable for her.

I’ve spent each day acclimating Khrysta to the trailer.  She was a reluctant loader but with the help of the clicker, she will now walk on the trailer with a hand signal from me.  No lead rope, no dressage whip, no tugging on a scared horse.  It’s amazing.  I’ve spent time with her in the trailer, feeding her dinner there, hanging out with her and letting her acclimate to the different environment.  I think she’s ready but am I?  Not really.  But I’ve learned the only thing constant in life is change.  As I put my long underwear back on the shelf, I think just perhaps it won’t be so bad after all.

Here’s pictures from the sunrise the other day.

And thank you to all of you who stop by and read and leave me comments.  I feel as though you are all on this journey with me.

Oh, you sound sort of sad leaving. It's nice that you have a little change of scenery, but I know that it is hard to pack everyone up and move.

Hi, I love your new background and your picture. I am sad for you because I know you love it there, but it will be waiting for you in the Spring. I hope once you get to the Ozarks, you will like the warm weather in the winter.
Have a good day, Deborah

Your pictures are delightful!

I think i understand a little (just a little). I have to be away from home two nights every week & each time i leave it is so very difficult. I can't imagine being gone for a winter. I think it would kill me!

But i hope that you do enjoy your winter & the mild weather. And i send travel mercies/prayers & hope you have a good trip. It is good that you're having the chance to adjust her to adapt to the trailer.

What a beautiful morning view. I wouldn't want to leave, but I am sure there are equally as beautiful views where you're headed. I guess with all things in life, we just have to see the beauty in what we have. I am glad to hear things are progressing well with Khrysta. I hope you have an 'uneventful' journey.

Be well. ~Andrea~

Home is where the heart is, they say. I'm sure a bit of your heart will stay forever on your mountain top. If Mountain Man, Khrysta, and all the pups are together with you in the Ozarks, that can be a home, too. Yes, it is sad to uproot and leave your things for a bit, but the things that really matter most will be coming with you! along with a waaayy warmer winter to look forward to!

and our hearts will follow you, too, on your new adventure.

Have you ever wintered there?

Your Khrysta is such a good mare..she really trusts you, as you have been faithful!I pray you don;t get stopped!!! What about getting the vet check done to be safe?! I would. That setback you do NOT want!

Be well my fine woman!

I think you might want to reconsider putting your long underwear back on the shelf. It might get chilly in the Ozarks.

I'm looking forward to seeing what everything looks like there once you get there.

You sound so very sad and I would be too. Does it hurt the horse to stand that long in a trailer? Can you stop along the way to let her stretch her legs?

Is there someone to keep a watchful eye on Red Pine Mountain for you while your gone? I hope it's kept safe for you while your awat!! My husband and his brother haul horses from state to state and you will need health papers. Coggins and health papers from a vet. They were delayed in Colorado because the papers were not included with the other paper work when they picked up a new horse.

One thing about life and the world. God's beauty is everywhere. And home really is where you are with the people you love. You still will have it all, your Mountain Man, your animals, a beautiful world to get to know and love from a different point of view, Red Pine Mountain to come home too, and US! All your blogging friends.

Life is about change and ADVENTURE…

Love you Dear! HUGS!

I love the header picture. It must be so much work to get ready to leave. Just winterizing my RV is a hassle, let alone a home. I look forward to reading of you newest adventure and I'm happy that you will have every "being" important to you going along. Blessings on your journey.

Be safe on your journey to the Ozarks. I'm sure once you get there, it will be an exciting change from your normal routine in the northeast kingdom. The weather will not be as harsh and you will have warmer days in the winter – not to say that winter can't one-two-punch you there, but usually it IS milder. :)

I love your photos in this post — beautiful!!
