On Kindness

I’m departing from my normal posts today and I’ll preface this entry by saying if you want to read a fine article on the subject matter on which I’m about to write, visit: The Zemeks Blog. I don’t have much to add to what Karen has written but just the same I feel compelled to write.

In what ways are we are brother’s keepers?  And what are our responsibilities to use words in a public forum such as blogging to edify and not to cause pain?

I think it is necessary as we go through our lives to be accountable for our actions. From the moment we wake up until we go to sleep at night, we all have the same amount of hours allotted to us. How we choose to use those hours is another matter all together. For me, the two keys are mindfulness and gratitude. I am mindful of my actions, knowing I can control no one person’s actions (no, not even Mountain Man) and that I am accountable to my maker at the end of the day for the way I have chosen to live my allotted hours here on earth. I choose to focus on the good in life, those things within my day that edify my spirit and lead me on the journey to be a better person. No, I’m not always successful, yes, I fall down but as I age, I’ve learned to focus on being the best I can be and not worry about what everyone around me is doing.  That’s why the motto of my blog is “Live Your Dreams, Share Your Hearts.”

I write this post today to challenge all of us to be mindful and to be kind.  Our actions throughout the day are our legacy, to our families, our children, our friends, neighbors and the world.  It’s a ripple effect.  I’ll leave you with one of my favorite Mother Teresa quotes:

“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.”

And kindness and mindfulness in our words as well.

Amen, sister. I was planning on writing the same thought for Valentine's Day. It is so important to show love in various forms–not just romantic love. Love in kindness is most important in this world and we need more of it.

Amen is right. What a wonderful post and something we all need to be mindful of. It reminds me of the words of one of the characters in the Disney movie Bambi "if you can't say anything nice…then don't say anything at all". If we all showed a little more love towards one another what a wonderful world this would be.

That was very nicely written and so true.
It is important what we do and how we do it.
Life in general is too short so why waste it doing the wrong thing.

Those are such good thoughts this Valentine's and every day of the year. Mother Teresa was so right. We only pass through each day once, it never comes back. When it comes to an end, I hope I have not caused one person any pain and that, if at all possible, I have eased someone's burden or, at the very least, made them smile.

Yes,…. your words are so true. We've been focusing on that philosophy at school as we work with the students. We call it "filling their bucket" instead of dipping from it. Always good to have a reminder. Great post!

First, let me say here (although I already did in an email) welcome home. Glad you got the house warmed up and the bed defrosted!

The kindness you show everyday to each and every one of us, is what inspires me daily.

Amen, sister!
And as our pastor put it yesterday, our aim should be growing more Christlike every day. That's a great quote by Mother Teresa–and you, too. I'm going to print both and hang them on my bathroom mirror!

I received two very lovely dish towels in the mail this past Friday. I took photos and wanted to post about it, but had one extremely busy weekend. I will post soon–promise! Not only are the dish towels good looking, but they are quality through and through! Thank you so very much for your wonderful kindness!
