No Rest For The Weary

It’s been a while since I wrote about Mountain Man but as usual, he’s been busy. He put the front addition on the house in the Ozarks and then headed home hoping to get some rest but my resident bear decided to visit and up he got to scare him off. Welcome home Mountain Man. Did he sleep late the next morning? No, he got right to work.
Bears notwithstanding, my 14 year old golden retriever, Faeden, stopped walking while Mountain Man was away. I figured it was the spread of arthritis and I was right He’s on supplements and pain relief and we’re starting acupuncture but my vet said no more steps so first on Mountain Man’s list of chores was to build a ramp from the yard to the deck.
Assembling the wood.

Working in the shop to build the ramp.

Bringing the ramp around to the yard with the help of the tractor. The last two boards were left open so he can attach the ramp to the deck (and, yes, the grass really grew while he was away).

Carrying it over to the deck. Of course, he wouldn’t let me help.

Toby, our newfie, helps Mountain Man install the ramp.

Ramp successfully installed, he took down the boards from the windows. Here’s where the bear pried the casement.

Next chore; mow acres of overgrown grass.

And then he made the pasture area larger for the minis.

Today, on to ripping out the carpet in our bedroom in preparation for our new hardwood flooring which he made. KT-Whippet sneezes at all the dust.

While Faeden rests comfortably in his bed which has been moved outside for the moment.

“Alvin, we’ve got lots to do before we stop.”

And while Mountain Man has been toiling away, I’ve been preparing for our new arrival tomorrow, an appaloosa mini horse named “Cash.” Details to follow this weekend.

How has your week been?

MM is always so busy, I’m surprised that grass dared to grow while he was away! Give an extra hug to Faeden, I love these old pets, they still try so hard to please us, even in their pain. Can’t wait to hear more about Cash, keep us posted!

I’m anxious to hear about Cash, too. Just from the pic, he looks like he’ll be fun to have around!!

My week has not been nearly as exciting as yours and mountain man’s but I do know what you mean about arthritis by getting a shot in my hip this morning.
OUCH!

Well, it’s a good thing that the mini horse knows how to use a mower. It looks like Mtn. Man is gonna need the help.

OMG, Cash looks like a real sweetie!
Poor sweet Faeden, I’m so glad you have MM to build a ramp for him. It’s so hard to watch our dearly loved pets get older. Faeden tugs at my heartstrings in that photo of him laying on his bed… what a sweetheart.
I’ve worked the last 3 days, and I’m so not used to working, LOL, but I’m off tomorrow and looking forward to a leisurely cup of coffee and at least a half hour of GMA before I start hustling around with chores, and running errands in Wichita. Then it’s back to work on Saturday!!! Ouch.

Cash looks adorbale!!

I sat here crying. When our 18 year old dog MoJo stopped walking last fall we built a ramp just like yours. I miss her so.
Now, don’t get me started on your new baby. First, our favorite breed of all is appaloosa, but to find a mini-one???Now THAT tops the cake. I can’t wait for the pictures.

That bear got a little too close. Yikes!

I think I would do better with a ramp too. We need a new deck and I’m going to see to it that there is a ramp there somewhere. Hope you don’t get anymore bear visitors.

Your farm is full of the most adorable creatures! (Including MM..

As an ex-Vermonter, I really like following MM’s and your adventures. I get tired just watching MM do his thing. I only have 1.5 acres, so managing a farm on 300 acres is quite a feat. Way to go!

Mountain Man is so sweet to build a ramp for your precious dog. That is delightful about your new mini.
A boat pressure horn will scare off a bear, you can get them at any hardware store.
