My Tom Got The Message At Long Last!

A post for mature audiences.
You’ve been with me as my Tom fell in love, you’ve followed my adventures trying to get said turkey off my back so I had to share the grand finale.
After my last Tom Turkey incident where I found myself quivering in terror under my vehicle trying to escape the most amorous, hormonal teenage tom turkey to be found, I have been careful when I ventured out. I’ve carried an umbrella. No, not for rain but to open in case of turkey attacks. At first, it worked and my boy would back off but he became used to it or realized I wasn’t about to hurt him and it did no good at all.
I moved on to carrying a broom everywhere and that seemed to distract him. Then a couple of nice days and he seemed to forget about me. He and his hens went on a walkabout searching for grass. I think the time alone did them some good because today, he finally became interested in his girls. And if you’ve never seen turkeys mate (I hadn’t) then these pictures are for you. And wouldn’t you know it, I just happened to be outside when he did the deed. I think he was showing off for me really.
It’s definitely a public affair. Onlookers are encouraged. But I wasn’t willing to get too close so I used my zoom lens. Now I could have lots of fun narrating these pictures but to keep this blog a family affair, I’m not going to.

It didn’t take long and it was over and my tom was very proud. Notice the expression on the other hens.

And the only question I’ll answer is yes, it’s snowing again (8 inches expected) but at least my tom has found a way to occupy himself. Now for the pitter patter of tiny poult feet.
Aren’t you glad you watched?

Glad to hear it’s safe for you to venture outside unprotected again!

At least he moved on. Good for you.
I’d not seen turkey’s mate either and quite frankly I still haven’t. I’m good with that.
Have a terrific day and stay warm.

At last there is contentment in the Poultry Palace, Mr. T. Turkey has claimed his rightful harem. At first I thought it was feather fluffs flying, good to know it was just snowflakes.

I’ m glad that Tom Turkey has finally realized he has a whole harem of female turkeys just waiting for him
Oh, I’m also glad you can venture out safetly now
I wonder how long it takes for them to have turkey chicks!!!

EEEK! Turkey porn!!!

Not porn, turkeys are just naturally tasteful. Heck I watched animals do it at aged 5 (me, not the animals), it was all part of the deal.

LOL…thank heaven’s he finally got interested in the ‘girls’! I love the look on the other hens faces….priceless!!!! Hope you don’t get too much snow….it sure makes for a long winter when you get it this late in the year. OH well…it will be gone before you know it and you’ll be out playing with the animals (just not the turkey’s!). Enjoy the rest of your day…

It’s usually very fast and furious. I’ve wondered how those hens’ backs don’t break! :O)

You crack me up! I would have liked to have seen the picture of you with you umbrella as a shield. Glad the turkey finally decided to pursue his own kind instead of you! Have a great Gobble, Gobble day!

Only you, Sara, could have a turkey fall in love with you. I’ve never in all my years heard of such a thing. I’m glad for you and Carl that he finally got his mind straight. Unfortunately in the bird life mating is not too loving in my opinion. I really didn’t want to watch when growing up on the farm. All of our milk cows were artificially bred and I didn’t really care to watch that either. I liked the tractor driving and the gardening the best on the farm. In the city it was lawn mowing, flower growing, gardening, and snow shoveling that kept me out of trouble.
Have a great snowy Vermont day.

Mountain Man is going to have to build a whole turkey dormitory, I think!

A video might have been more x-rated. I’d say these pics were PG-13!
So funny!
Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I think a pin badge giveaway is a wonderful idea! Kanako would be thrilled.
And, I guess it’s obvious I’m trying to catch up with my blog reading again–hence such a late comment on a post that you wrote a whole week ago!
