My Readers Share Their Hearts

“The more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite.”
So wrote William Shakespeare in “Romeo and Juliet” in 1594.

And, it’s true. The more we give to others, the more we share our hearts, the more we receive in return and our lives become filled with the power of love.

In the most recent “Share Your Hearts” contest, I asked my readers to share random acts of kindness they have performed. I knew I wasn’t asking a lot of you because you who read this blog are filled with grateful hearts.

The comments I received stated that you do these acts quietly, asking for nothing in return except to know you had made a difference in someone’s life. But, I did ask you to share these acts because we are bombarded by the negative. But what about all the positive that happens under our eyes every day? There are many unsung heroes who go quietly about their daily lives taking the time to perform random acts of kindness. These people are the ones who change the world, step by small step, one gesture at a time. Perhaps no bells ring, no sirens sound off but every time we are kind to another asking for nothing in return, the world becomes a gentler place.

If you haven’t done so I hope you will read the quotes on the left hand side of my blog. I picked them to illustrate that compassion knows no religion, no country but is instead a universal language.

So, without further ado, let’s read how you shared your hearts this past month.

Like many people, I will be donating some money to blogger Braja and her husband to pay for their medical expenses in India. I also intend to donate to their taxi driver, who is in danger of losing a leg.

I bought graduation announcements and am helping her get the money together to pay graduation dues so that she can walk the aisle with others…she is graduating with honors and is the first person in her family to even graduate high school at all.

It made me smile to finally have gotten ALL of my SD cards photo’s printed tonight. I have soo many to print but the really great sale at Feddies made it easy to accomplish with out breaking the budget.
I got 78 prints done(I edit and border them all) and the photo gal came on over and said,”you really should take advantage of our special today, an 8 x 10 enlargement 1/2 price.” So, I thought..I will look through it all and see what strikes me… I had done prints for two of my X stable mates, that I have been missing since my hasty move. I ran across my spiritual mentors picture with her daughter. I took it while we 3 were trail riding for the first time last fall. Thhis woman really is amn example Of Christ and she pulled me through my trial through fire. In the snap, she ios lovingly looking at her daughter who is beaming with delight, to be out on the trails!
I chose that snap to enlarge. I am so excited to surprise her with a lovley moment in time for us all.
That’s it!

We had our Boy Scout annual Pancake Breakfast today, and when we finished serving the 1000 people that came, we were supposed to clean up everything, as the community house would be used for the Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow. Instead of putting away all the chairs and tables, we went ahead and set up the entire room for the moms, so that when they came in, they were overjoyed to see the hard work already done for them. It would have been much easier to pack up everything, sweep up, and leave, but we swept everything, set up, and made the place pristine. One mom that came into the room afterwards was moved to tears.

We were unable to hit a charity function for one of the SO’s coworkers with a critically ill child. We went ahead and gave the door fee to the organizer even though we couldn’t attend.

My act of kindness was to go today and help my ex-boss figure out how to do payroll taxes, quarterly reports, bank reconciliation, etc. I retired last June and the lady he hired to help him quit and left him high and dry. I noticed that there were lots of things that she didn’t get done in a timely manner (there were several late filing notices from the state and federal government for payroll taxes, etc.) so I think she actually quit working several months ago but didn’t leave…if you know what I mean) Yesterday my ex-boss called and asked if I could possibly help him out next time I came to town. I told him I had a haircut appointment in town today and could stop by afterwards to help him out. It felt good to know that I was still wanted and needed and able to contribute (I was almost afraid that after 10 months I might have forgotten how to do a lot of these things but apparently after 10-1/2 years of doing them they stick with you for awhile!)

I have been buying toys and games on sale. I already have 3 bags of these to give to Santa’s helpers for Christmas. With the economy the way it is, I think more families then ever will need so help this year. I also invited a friend for breakfast on Sunday. I told her I won a gift card and I cannot think of anyone I would rather take to breakfast. I know she is looking forward to it.

The kids and I got a chance to feed a homeless guy in San Francisco last week, but why should we get credit for that? It was GREAT! That’s the beauty of helping. It truly IS more blessed to give than receive. We all Yahooed! afterward. Who doesn’t want to ease suffering even if it seems to be a tiny drop in the bucket? We got our reward.

We look for ways to meet needs on a daily basis. One thing I LOVE to do is notice something good about someone and then say it. Yes, even to PHYSICALLY beautiful people. I think we can get the impression that they hear “good stuff” all the time. But maybe no one ever told them how gentle they are with their child. And to those the world just passes over? They really need us to notice them for their inner beauty or strength of character. I love the warmth you see spread over someone who has just heard a specific, kind word. I’m a JUNKY for that! lol

My brother has been doing really good in school lately and I knew that a new game that he really wanted was coming out soon, so I bought it for him and suprised him with it after school one day, his smile was priceless. :)

I try to do acts of kindness always. Don’t really like to talk about what I do, then to me it is not gloryfying to God.
At any rate I am new to the area I live, mostly seniors. I always cook too much. I take em meals. You should see the faces when I do. I can see God shining through.
I can only hope if I am ever in need that it will be prayed forward!

And this from Mommanator as well:

Daughter#2 just had a wonderful act of kindness done for her! She had a plumber friend/church family member, install a new hot water heater for a pittance. She was flabbergasted and can’t stop raving about it, although with these economic times feels she should pay him more. Interesting concept!

This is something I try to do regularly so I don’t suppose it is random. I don’t usually talk about it because I feel like it is tooting my own horn.
It is something though I think is important and so easy for anyone to take part in.
A few years ago a friend’s daughter worked with DFCS. Department of family and children service. She was telling me of a family of 3 children that was being taken away from their mother because of abuse and unsafe living conditions. It was a 6 year old girl and twin boys 18 months old.
As a hobby I was making some little stuffed dogs that I embroidered the child’s name on the ears.
I thought how awful it was for those children to be torned away from the only home they had every known, the only mother they had evey know, even though it was unsafe for them. I also thought of what they had already been through.
I knew they were so scared.
I decided to hurry and make 3 of the dogs with each of the children’s name on the stuffed animals. I choose flannel material because it was soft and cuddly.I embroidered the eyes on and sewed the tongue down so the little ones wouldn’t have unsafe objects in their mouths.
I gave them to the friend who went through the DFCS to have the animals there and waiting when they went to the new foster home.
Later she told me the 6 year old clung to that little dog for days, night and day.
I cried.
So now I try to send as many as I can(now it is frogs) to DFCS through out the year.
This is something we all can do. Just visit or call your local DFCS to see about donating a doll, stuff animal. It doesn’t have to be something you made. It doesn’t have to cost much.
These children have went through such a rough time. They need something to cling to. Little things can mean so much to them.
and to you!
Pam

I too have a giveaway up and running. I want to see someone I don’t even know, never talked to prosper in her own way. So I decided out of my own pocket to give some lucky reader a chance to win. Nothing in it for me. I get readers stopping by but I just blog to help others learn. So this is my act of kindness for the week. Many more to come.

What wonderful stories! I didn’t enter this because I didn’t think I did anything for anyone. But reading these made me realize I have done acts of kindness. I guess I just didn’t realize that some of the things I’ve done, could have affected the people I did them for, in a favorable way.
Thanks for having this contest and sharing the lovely stories!
