Mountain Man Mondays; Mountain Man To The Rescue

Last night, there was a storm raging outside our house. Rain fell incessantly and the wind howled. Khrysta was dry in her stall, the Canine Kids were in their beds and Mountain Man and I were asleep under layers of quilts (and K-Whip was under there too). But what about the birds? Do you ever wonder what happens to them in a storm? Well, this morning when I went to feed Khrysta, I discovered that sometimes bad weather means trouble for birds.
I found a little bird clinging to a stump in our yard. At first, I thought it was resting but it didn’t fly off as I approached. Upon closer look, I discovered it was actually stuck to the stump. I thought one of its claws was the problem and I easily got the bird off the stump but then it just fell over and couldn’t move. I called for Mountain Man. He discovered that some sticky, wet debris had become enmeshed in the bird’s claws basically binding its feet and wings together. And then, the hands that so skillfully turn logs into art gently unwound and removed the debris from the bird’s feet.
Poor bird. His two feet were actually stuck together.
It was a time consuming process and for the most part, the bird was very patient and realized Mountain Man was helping him.
I’m glad this story had a happy ending. Just another reason I love Mountain Man.

Strong hands that can be so delicate, hopefully he is well now.

That is so cool! We had a bird in the barn upstairs when we were getting it ready to finish and we opened the window on the oppisite end so he could fly out and He went to the wrong window and flew right into the window and knocked him out. We sat him on the sill with the window open and waited for him to get his bearings back and he did then he flew right out the window!

I love a good bird rescue : )
Dang little birds here fly into our windows. I've gotten to save a few – put them in a dark quiet box for a while until they recover from the blow, but some don't make it.
Then there was the time I got to help save a Raven… most sacred of birds IMO : )

Too bad I am happily married and good thing Mountain Man doesn't have an identical twin. Because after that story, I would have to rethink everything!

You have made my day…good thing for that little chickadee that you happened to see him and that you have a patient and caring guy to fix things – even little birds! I do ALWAYS wonder what happens to the birds and wildlife in bad weather.
