First, I’d like to thank everyone for your comments. Khrysta is doing well. The blacksmith is going to be coming to look at her hoof this week per my vet’s instructions and hopefully she is on the way to mending. However, it might be some time before we are out riding again.
My Mother is home now and happy to be out of the hospital and in her own surroundings. She has six more weeks of physical therapy before she’ll be totally out and about but she is well on her way to recovering. I appreciate so much all your prayers on her behalf and all your notes as well. All of them meant a lot to me and my family. You are a dear, sweet group of readers and your concern has touched my heart.
There’s lots happening on Red Pine Mountain. So many things to write about but today I’ll finish the story of the gate before moving on to other things.
We get a lot of deliveries here on Red Pine Mountain so when we put in a gate, Mountain Man wanted to make sure our packages would be protected.
I had spoken to our UPS driver about the gate and he said most of his customers with gates had simple drop boxes and I relayed that information to Mountain Man.
“No.” Mountain Man’s reply. He had something more substantial in mind. And, because he can and does build anything, I should have known without asking, we wouldn’t have any ordinary drop box.
Creating our new package delivery receptacle from wood he cut.
Using metal roofing from materials left over from building my run-in shed.Making sure the interior is just right.
Our finished parcel shed. It’s actually huge and kind of like a miniature house. I can stand up in it without bending over.
Finishing the gate down at the end of the driveway. The parcel shed is now in place.
Making sure our gate will open evenly and lines up perfectly with the posts for the times we have it open.
More work on creating a fence to meet the gate.
The parcel shed sitting by the gate. Now, this raised some problems.
“Mountain Man, this looks like an outhouse for people hiking in the woods. No one is going to know it’s a package delivery shed cause I’ve never seen one quite this fancy.”My comments got the ever thoughtful Mountain Man to thinking and after deliberation, he carved the following plaque and put it on the shed. Now, this is not written in ink, no, it’s hand carved into the wood. Look how neat. I truly believe there is nothing the ever resourceful Mountain Man can’t do.
A photo of the finished product. The signs were Mountain Man’s idea warning everyone of the fierce German Shepherd dogs (Lilly and Logan) who await intruders. His way of keeping me safe.
That ends the story of the gate. Thanks for joining me on Mountain Man Mondays!

I am so glad to hear that your baby is doing better.
And Mountain Man, is very good to you. What a great shed.

I'm glad to hear that your mother is doing better. The recovery is long, but very needed with a broken hip. Also glad to hear Krysta is doing better. Sounds like everyone is on the mend up there on the mountain and looks like you'll be especially safe with the new gate and signs!

Good news about your mother. Thanks for the update. How do you keep your parcels secure from theft? If delivery can put the parcels in,… can't someone take them out?

Wonderful parcel shed, the gate is grand too.
Good news about your mom

It took me a minute to figure out what it was for, it's even better than one of those country school bus shelters.
Glad your mother's better.
The only thing I've ever really done with wood was a dog house once, that was shaped like that. A dog house for a dog that slept on my bed..ha.

So glad to hear your Mom is getting better by the day and Khrysta, too. Fancy, shmancy, is what I say about your drop box! I'm sure you feel much safer now, I would. Is there anything that Mountain Man can't do? My faher was like that. Does he have a single brother that would like to live in Florida?

Is there anything he can't do? I'm glad everyone is mending. The parcel hut looks like the small shelters rural people have for their children to wait for the school bus. I was thinking a sign saying "Delivery Room" might be in order.

Wow the gate and the parcel shed look fantastic! Mountain Man should be very proud. It is easy to tell whatever he builds he wants to do it right and I really respect that!

I had to laugh at your comment to Mountain Man that it looked like an outhouse, because it did – but with the hand-carved sign, it is transformed! Good idea about the sign regarding Lily and Logan – who would mess with you now knowing they await inside the gate. It looks wonderful!

I'm glad to hear that everybody is doing better.

Your man is so handy! When he runs out of projects, please send him my way to Ohio, k?

If he runs outta things he wants to do here, just know I have a wood floor that needs putting in and a backyard beggin' for a makeover. I'll put you up and you'll be two hours from the Pacific Ocean and an hour from Yosemite. I don't cook half bad either!

Holy Cow what kind of packages do you get in the mountains? Trunks!
That looks better than some dog houses I have seen!

What a beautiful gate and parcel delivery box. Is that your house at the end of the lane.

Thanks everyone for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
MM wants you to know he doesn't like writing and he doesn't like to work with hay burners but other than that, I think he can do anything.
Cedar, seems as though we are always home to pick up packages and the dogs make such a fuss when anyone gets near. You'd have to be very brave to hear all those barking dogs and stop long enough to steal something.
Becky, MM has a brother but he's married
Mary, I loved your idea for a sign. And yes, it does look like a bus shelter as you and Alan mentioned.
Ivanhoe, he'll be traveling through Ohio later this summer if you need help
Mommanator, I said the same thing you did when I saw the size of the shed. Actually the packages are saw bands and other items MM has to send out to be sharpened but still they aren't that large.
Linda, yes, our house sits at the base of Red Pine Mountain and the mountain goes up behind us.

Gorgeous, he does one bang-up job on everything he constructs! The gate looks awesome and your package delivery receptacle — well, it IS large!
I didn't know about your mom or Khrysta as I haven't stopped by here in over a week – my bad! I'm so sorry and I hope that things are looking up for both of them. It sounds like they are, and I'm glad!
I'll have to go back a few posts and read up ….

I am always surprised at the support I receive in the blogging world!! I'm glad that your horse is doing better and not fighting you on treatment.
Hey, when did you get back to EC???

I am pretty sure Mtn Man and Mr. Vixen are related somewhere along the line. When you said drop box, I pictured a little drop box and then I laughed and thought if it was Mr. Vixen it would be it's own building. And sure enough, that is what you got. The sign is terrific too.
Handy men are hawt!

What a nice shed for your packages. i agree, people might have thought it was an outhouse. Wonderful sign too! Glad your mom is home and recovering!

It's a blessing that your mom is recovering and will be better with time.
On another note, I don't think I would venture into your gate with that man eater sign above the fence. I clicked on the picture to see more closely and YEAH. I won't come up to ring your door bell LADY.
Not without and escort.
And that's a really cute outhouse… hee hee.
