Mountain Man Monday’s; A Brief Update and a Return to the Archives

I’d like to thank everyone for their Christmas wishes. They made our holiday incredibly special. Mountain Man is finishing painting the bedroom and we’ll be moving into it sometime this week. Today, I’d like to combine a little bit of old and new. Just some shots of the new bedroom and then Mountain Man’s meme from the archives.

The new bedroom has come a long way.  Mountain Man shows me how not to insulate a wall.

And remember when it looked like this?

He hung the sheet rock and just got finished with the primer.

We’re going to be painting it with one of my favorite colors from the historic register of colors, “Jekyll Club Veranda White.”  It changes hues with the sunlight.  Anywhere from cream to yellow.  If this were our permanent home, the walls would be made of Red Pine Mountain wood.

Now, on to the old, for those of you who are new to the blog and would enjoy learning more about Mountain Man.  From November, 2008:

Karen Zemek tagged me to share eight random things about me. I have participated in several MeMes latelty so I thought this time you would like to learn more about Mountain Man.

1. He was born in New Jersey and lived in the same house until he left home. His father is still living there. His Mother passed away many years ago.

2. After college, he obtained a Masters in Education and was a high school teacher for ten years.

3. He bought a house as soon as he started his teaching job and because teachers’ salaries were not enough to cover the mortgage, he also worked at Roadway Express on nights and weekends loading trucks to make ends meet.

4. He is a Giants fan.

5. He does all the cooking.

6. He started making furniture when he was a child. We have a desk and a table in our home he built when he was ten. Here’s a picture of the hutch.  Even as a child he showed his talent, don’t you think?

7. Over thirty years ago, he went on a vacation to Vermont and decided he wanted to leave New Jersey and live in a more rural area and work with the land.

8. He builds cabins and barns and houses that blend in with a rural Vermont landscape. All of his houses are built with timber from our land which he logs himself. He then processes the logs on his sawmill and  finishes them in his shop. Here’s two pictures of a camping cabin he built last year.

That’s our excavator still hard at work building a barn for them.

Oh the joy of new, rising for the ashes of the old. I love our old house all the memories from the people who lived here before us, and the memories Terry and I are making. Mountain Man is amazing, as are you. I cherish the fact you are in my life.

The bedroom is looking so good. I can't wait to see it finished and with furniture.

Also MM really did show amazing talent at such a young age with regard to furniture making.

Plus he cooks … I bet you have to pinch yourself sometimes. :)

I can not even imagine having an ambitious man in my life. But I realize how wonderful life could have been had I been lucky enough to have found one… Those log homes are wonderful and the hutch looks very similar to one I bought in a store in Florida. I will add a photo of it to my blog – one day!
Have a very happy 2010!
