Mountain Man Monday; Odds and Ends

I want to thank everyone for their comments on my last post. I also received quite a few questions which I will answer this week but today belongs to Mountain Man.

He arrived home late Friday night after a 30 hour drive. Some sleep and he was ready to spring back into action. We ran errands on Saturday morning. It was a quintessential Vermont summer day.

The highways were deserted.
The water glistened in the sunshine.
We passed a lovely old farm.
And we even saw an antique tractor.
But turning down the road to our farm and headed home is always the best part of an outing.
Time to move the pasture. We had recently bushhogged it and put Khrysta on our lower field. I thought she would enjoy it but she didn’t. She spent her days in the barn area and would only reluctantly venture down if I accompanied her. I think it’s the moose who has been visiting off and on but Mountain Man thinks it’s too wet for her liking. Whatever the reason, he wanted to get her out of there.

Electric fencing is wonderful until you have to move it and then it’s quite a chore.

This time I learned to wear a sweatshirt to keep my arms free of painful fiberglass splinters.

First, Mountain Man made an area to confine Khrysta.
Then we started rolling up the fence and pulling the stakes.
Next, Mountain Man had to move the fence posts.

Stringing up the fence. One side down.
Another side to go.
When we reached the top, we needed more supplies. “Hey honey, can you run down to the barn and bring me some more wire?”

“You’re not serious are you?” At this point, I was gasping for breath. Mountain Man decided to make the trek himself to the dot in the distance which is our barn. I relaxed and enjoyed the view.
“Hey, can you catch up?”
I finally caught up.
Done at last. A happy mare is once again released into her hilltop paradise.
I returned to the house, went straight to my chair, put my feet up and relaxed with a large glass of water. I was done for the day but not Mountain Man. No, he continued on to mow acres of grass that had grown during his absence. Yes, you guessed it, he used a push mower.
Red Pine Mountain is back to normal once again.

Wow! You guys had a busy weekend! Kudos to both of you for getting so much done! I'm evious of your mare's hilltop paradise. I could take a quilt and a good book and sit there for hours (if she'd share, that is!) :)

I'm glad he made it back! Do you think he could send some of that energy my way? Question, what is bushhogged? (As you can tell, I'm a city boy).

Oh, sweet Khrysta is such a princess! Maybe she needs a goat for a pasture mate? Someone to boss around! (another hay-burner!)

Love the comment from Tahtimbo…"what is bushhogged."
I do forget sometimes that not everyone speaks "country" fluently!
But then I guess I don't speak "city"!
Glad MM is home. Know you missed him. Thanks for the gorgeous pics of cool Vermont. Wish the humidty would leave our mountain here in Tn.
Blessings, Misha

Let me wipe the sweat from my brow after reading your hard working post! I'm glad you have each other. I enjoyed your story from the previous post just forgot to tell you. You did quite well on the weight loss, wish I could find that determination, maybe I haven't prayed hard enough.
