Morning on Red Pine Mountain

Thank you for your comments and welcome home.  We’re almost back to normal.  One more incident with our oven where mice had decided to build a nest but I think I’ll spare you the gory details.  Suffice it to say that hot oven + mouse droppings = unbelievable stench.  I’ll leave the rest to your imagination.

There’s not much snow here, maybe just a foot or so and none in the forecast even though the rest of New England is getting covered in the white stuff.  But it’s still beautiful.  And one of the highlights of my day is starting my morning chores.

I open the back door and find Khrysta has perched herself on Mountain Man’s log platform.

She’s watching the door, waiting for me to head out to the barn to feed her.

But maybe she is looking at the beautiful winter skies.

We spend some time together. I snap a quick photo.  Did I tell you it’s below zero?

While I’m taking care of Khrysta, Mountain Man is busy refilling our outdoor boiler.

It’s a wood eating monster but keeps us nice and toasty.

I head down the driveway to see if I can find deer tracks.  We saw a deer yesterday searching for apples on our apple tree.  She’s got quite a while to wait for apple blossoms.  There’s some evidence of sun behind the trees but the Northeast Kingdom in winter is usually gray.

No evidence of the brook either.

The pine trees Mountain Man transplanted are starting to grow.

Back to the house where Mountain Man is preparing bacon and eggs.  Another wonderful beginning to a winter day.

ooooh….cooked mousey droppings…ugh!! We had a mouse infestation a few years ago…they made a nice little "house" in the back of our refrigerator. UGH!!!

Glad that all is well there. Bacon and eggs sound very yummy this morning! :)

I hope the snow stays south of here, looks more like spring…(a bit anyways).

Time to get a cat(s) for the mice….hmm maybe not with all those dogs. Usually best to have the cats first, then introduce the dogs

Once again, I'm glad that you all arrived home safely. The mouse thing would have given me the willies (does anyone ever say that anymore?). I do have a stupid question, though…Is the outdoor boiler something like a heater for your house? I have never heard of one before.
The though of bacon and eggs has made me very hungry:)

A mice nest in your oven?! EWWW! I remember my dad's grimy oven, but at least there was no mice nest in it! Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. I am definitely a city girl! Taking pictures when it's below zero proves you are one tough lady! My hands would be snuggled inside my pockets with my hand warmers!

Glad you're all settled in! I think, in fact, I'm smelling something mousey as I preheat the oven for a ham. I had inspected it earlier and found nothing. Hmmmm… the joys of winter! Beautiful pictures, as always. Happy to see those mountains again, as I'm sure you are too :) -Tammy
