Morning Chores in The Frozen North

First thing every morning, there are barn chores, horses to be fed, fresh water to be distributed even when it’s five degrees below zero. And, that’s the temperature here this morning.

The horses are always waiting and anxious for their breakfast. But, with frigid temperatures come adventures and this morning was no exception.

Water for the barn comes from one of our mountain springs. Mountain Man built a well and a temporary system for me to pump out water. Eventually, this water supply will be in my heated tack room but for the moment it is outside and this morning my hose froze to the side of the well. I tugged and tugged but I couldn’t dislodge the hose.

Never fear, Mountain Man to the rescue.

I don’t think I’ve ever told you about the dogs of Red Pine Mountain. All seven (yes, seven) of them are an important part of our family. They range in size from a 160 pound newfoundland to an 8 pound Chinese Crested.

Lilly, one of our shepherds, always comes with me to do chores in the morning but today, she got distracted by the icy snow.

It’s never dull around here…

Alan, I’m off to sign up for Vimeo today.

It makes me cold just reading about your monring chores and the frozen hose. Didn’t look like Lilly minded the cold though. And when did you get the chinese crested? I must have missed that somehow.

Howdy Jewelry Rockstar! It’s not an easy life at all. It’s cold and messy and chores always needing to be done. It’s a labor of love for sure. There are times I yearn for a spa vacation and some pampering in a warm, tropical climate :)

I don’t miss wells.

Everyone said I had too many dogs with 3 large ones at the same time. I sure miss having one, not a good time for one right now. I had video of them on my hard drive, but it got corrupted and I lost all of them.

I have my 2 cats on vimeo now and I think on youtube as well. I’m not much of a cat person though, I just got them when I was living in the country…for the never ending mice problem.
They are both 13 years old now. Country cats do NOT adapt too well to city living…even now.

I sure miss having a dog, I’ve had at least one all my life, until not too long ago.
