Miracles Everywhere

Miracles surround us everyday if we only open our hearts. Oh, I was in such a selfish funk last week until a comment made by a dear friend helped me. I was able to turn my attention back to God and find that faith which centers me and from that many small miracles have occurred in just two days.
I found my voice again and was able to write of my experiences and then I read your thoughts as you shared them with me. I found comfort and inspiration reading what you had written. You, my readers, are a true blessing in my life.
I have long sponsored children through Compassion. Although I send a small amount of money each month to help support my children, I receive so much more in return. The letters my children write, the pictures they draw for me, their lives shared with me as they progress from year to year bring me untold joy. I recently sent a small family gift to one of my children in India. Not much money, insubstantial to those of us in the United States, but yesterday, I received this letter from my child:
“My family thanks you for the gift money. We are really happy to get gift money. We made a toilet with the gift money. We had no toilet at home.”
I stopped and thought about all in my life I take for granted and, in fact, don’t even appreciate. I resolved to try not to be self absorbed with inconsequential problems and to work harder to make a small difference in the world.
And, that same day, Lady Fi, one of the winner’s of the Share Your Hearts Giveaway, wrote to me that instead of claiming her prize, she would prefer I donate to Kiva.org. For those of you who don’t know Kiva.org, it is a charitable website that connects people who are trying to improve their lives and lift themseleves out of poverty and are in need of loans to reach out to others who are in a position to help. Now, we’re not talking about large sums of money here. In fact, most people loan $25.00 but all of the money is pooled together to make loans that make a difference in lives.
Lady Fi’s loving and generous heart made a lasting impression with me.
So, you see, to me all of the above are miracles because each has opened my heart further to the beauty of life around us and it’s endless possibilities once again reminding me to be present as the day unfolds and to give thanks to God for each and every blessing in my life.

Lovely post today. We just don’t realize how lucky we are until your eyes are opened to the plights of others in the world–or even nearby. I used to be a reading coach at our school and I was horrified at how little some of the students had. I loved to spend time with them, just talking. It broke my heart listening to their stories of how they lived–and this was just a few towns over. As much as I hate that school, I know my daughter is a better person because she knows other kids whose lives are so bad in comparison to hers. She is so much more compasionate for others because of it.

You’re too kind! I thank you for the donation to kiva.org and hope that this inspires more people to make a small contribution as even a little can go such a long way.

Your previous post was a great reminder to me, too. I haven’t been on very good speaking terms with Him, lately. I forget that he still speaks to me, even when I don’t speak to him. Have a wonder-filled week.

You are so right. Just a little can help someone. Plus it shows them there are people across the world that do care.
Good post and good thoughts.
Have a great day.

Yep. I can not agree more about this. In some way every day I remember how fortunate we are to live so well and that millions upon millions of others in third world countries struggle every day. But it is so easy to forget.

Such a wonderful post! I love Kiva also, because they give us all the opportunity to do so much with such a small amount of money. Blessings to you my friend

Using the money for a toilet really brings reality into perspective. I’ve been very poor at times, so I understand a little of what the child’s life is like. It can be a wonderful feeling to help, and be helped.

Thank you every one for stopping by.
Lin, what a valuable lesson you have taught your daughter, that of compassion and gratitude. It is so important to be grateful always.
Becky, thank you.
LadyFi, you have a beautiful, giving heart and I thank you for it.
Mary, you are right. God is always speaking to us and the question is are we listening. I know I’m not always and that is when I run into trouble.
Pam, thank you.
Karen, wow, thank you for your words of praise. They had me smiling for days because I want to do something with my writing but it’s also about you, my wonderful readers, and the beautiful hearts you all have. You are all so special and a true blessing to me.
Neas, thank you.
Julia, it is easy to forget how blessed we are and so hard to imagine how poverty stricken some lives are.
Dori, I’m so glad you know about Kiva. I told your husband to take good care of you or else!
Ratty, I’m so sorry you knew poverty and had to struggle. You are such an inspiration to us all with your upbeat journeys and photos. Your blog is always such a happy place.
Homestay, thank you!
