It’s Spring In The Northeast Kingdom When…

“If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute and it will change.” That’s a famous saying here in Vermont and yesterday was no exception. The morning started out blustery and cold and then snow started to fall. Not a big blizzard, just enough to make Khyrsta look as though she were sporting dandruff.

I grabbed a cup of tea and headed to the wood stove and listened to the wind howl. But sure enough, afternoon came and the winds ceased and a weak sun made an appearance. I grabbed my camera and headed up the pasture and Khrysta and I watched the mountains.

And as I admired the light, so quintessentially Vermont in its ever changing hues,

three deer appeared

They were so close, I was sure they’d flee. But they didn’t.

Their tails were so white and fluffy and LONG.

And they are still so very young.

But already best friends.

I stayed for a while, in no hurry to break the spell. And while the wind whipped around my face, I could feel spring all around me; Khrysta searching for new blades of grass and the deer once again down from their winter home atop Red Pine Mountain.

I have the hardest time, every single day I read your diary, not packing up my stuff and leaving everyone behind to storm your castle and move in!

It sure does….now it’s sunny but cold, below freezing….brrrr. Nice hot sun though.

Q for Mountain Man…
Too early for planting the cold vegetables still….lettuce I think can be seeded now ???? They always say plant as soon as the ground can be worked.
