It’s Not Over Yet

There’s a theme here on Red Pine Mountain at the moment having to do with continual snow. Maybe it’s because I posted about the end of the storm or maybe it had something to do with my one time supposed alien sighting. Whatever the reason, it’s been snowing since I left you.

Flash back to Saturday morning. The sun was shining, what birds are still here were singing and the temperatures were soaring into the 20s. An ideal day. Didn’t matter the Weather Channel was predicting a major storm. They had to be wrong. Mountain Man got busy moving snow and I went about my chores donkeys in tow.

I’ve discovered donkeys and horses are like night and day. Take my mini horses out without a lead and they’d be headed back to their hay pile but the donkeys enjoy adventure. And Esme, in particular, loves snow. Mountain Man had shoveled many paths

But Esme has her own opinions and dives right in.

And takes the road less traveled.

After an entire hour of sunshine, snow started falling and kept on falling. By bedtime, we had another 8 inches of the stuff.

Just as we started to drift off to sleep, we heard a big bang. Mountain Man’s first thought was a roof collapsed. Next thing we knew the sky was illuminated. “Must be those aliens returning again.” I suggested. You have to have a sense of humor to live with me. No, it wasn’t aliens but it was just as exciting; an incredible lightning display. Although it is called “thunder snow” that doesn’t adequately describe it. One huge lightening strike after another hit all around us and the entire time, it was snowing.

Next morning, the snow had tapered off. I headed out to the barn chatting about the beauty around me.

The grouchy Mountain Man got busy moving snow.

I decided to walk around the pasture and try to get pictures for you and I managed one but

I fell down in the snow and I couldn’t get back up. It was as though the snow had giant tentacles and kept sucking me back in. Of course, the horses ignored my cries for help and Mountain Man couldn’t hear me. I was destined to be there for a long time. After a few minutes of panic, I decided to start digging and eventually got up again.

Oh, did I tell you it’s snowing now. Another 8″ predicted today and another monster storm supposedly headed our way this weekend. Maybe, just maybe, those aliens are messing with us. But really; it is beautiful. Just have to remember not to fall down.

How is it in your part of the world?

WOW! You guys have really been hit hard. We’ve got cold, but nothing like you guys are experiencing! I hope the snow lets up soon.

I love the picture of the little donkey. What a cutie! And very adventurous. She knows how to make the best of it :)

Stay warm and safe!

Wow that’s a lot of snow. I love Esme. She’s got a lot of spunk.

It doesn’t snow here and we are having early spring weather. Near 70°. Some folks are already wearing shorts and tees. Spring is coming. The bugs are popping out on the trees.

Have a terrific day and stay warm. :)

We also had thundersnow in the Champlain Valley. We had over 6 inches of snow here in my town (on top of the foot we got earlier in the week). Its getting pretty hard to find a place to put the snow. The snowbanks at the end of the streets are over 6; high! Makes driving a little more challenging. We expect another 3 to 6 inches tonite.

We are having mixed weather. One day it mid 40s the next day it’s mid teens. Tipical Nebraska weather will always keep us guessing as to what’s coming next the good, the bad, or the ugly. By the end of February, the worst of the Winter is over and by April it’s all over and spring flowers are starting to grow forth and flower.

Have a great snow day and try to stay upright will ya?

Pretty much the same here in Barton, minus the donkeys and a little closer to the village. Still, it’s a sight, eh?

Esme is adorable, truly love her independent spirit.
The last time we had Thundersnow in our south Florida area was when our local weather station mistyped the weather code into their computer and conditions were broadcast as Thundersnow. We still laugh about that today.

Well, today we had sunshine with temps in the mid-40′s. It was a beautiful day. The forecast is for more of the same over the next several days. I noticed this afternoon that my crocus are up about two inches already! Spring is just around the corner!

I love reading about your farm and your snow IS beautiful, but I like living right where I’m at! :-)

Brrrrrr! You saw my weekend pictures at the beach. I feel kind of guilty enjoying this weather – don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t swimming in that 55 degree water, nor even baring myself in a swimsuit – but plenty of people were. The outside temperatures on Superbowl Sunday were about 65 degrees, about our usual day time temperatures around here at this time of the year and nice and sunny. Dogs and humans were having a great time.
