In Which Mountain Man Does Chores

I haven’t written much about Mountain Man lately so today is the day.
Ask Mountain Man which is his least favorite month in Vermont and he’ll answer “November.” We never seen the sun. Okay, maybe we see it for a minute or two here and there but it’s always gloomy as we teeter between fall and winter. But despite the grumbling, he’s always out there working and here’s what he did Saturday.
He started the morning by having a meeting with Lilly and the turkeys (you knew I’d find a way to sneak them in here) about the renovations to the old barn.

Satisfied that all is going along as planned, he decided to move the pasture fence so the horses could take advantage of the last of the grass. “Okay, crazy birds, let’s get moving.”

And off they went. Over hill and dale.

First, he had to unroll acres of fencing.

Leaving the horses without a fence temporarily.

The turkeys were assigned the chore of making sure the horses didn’t wander.

But they left the job when they discovered Mountain Man was rolling miles of interesting white tape.

Unfortunately, Mountain Man decided to expand the pasture so much, he ran out of tape and had to make many trips back and forth to the barn requiring more hiking of hill and dale and once again leaving the easily distracted turkeys in charge of the horses.

And it proved one trip too many for Mountain Man and he decided to forgo walking for his kind of horse power, tractor that is.

The turkeys proved up to the task of watching the horses or perhaps the horses just didn’t feel like wandering far either. They too were more interested in the white tape.

And after finishing the job, Mountain Man got on his tractor and the turkeys and the guineas having enough of walking themselves decided to fly all the way home.

And that is how Mountain Man spent Saturday afternoon.
How was your Saturday?

I am sure that Mountain Man appreciates all of the help he gets from the turkeys. He could teach one of the horses to pack and then they could help too. Turkeys carrying the hot tape and a mini packing tools all following Mountain Man….now that would be a sight to see.

Times are very hard in this part of the country. If one should lose a job due to cut backs, it is almost asured it will take a year or more to find a decent job. I spent this Saturday helping move a person in just such a situation. Due to health reasons which prevented her from working, her employer let her go. She now has to move in with her sister until things improve. In a couple weeks, another friend will have to move because of financial reasons.
Those that have an income that pays all the bills are truly blessed in these times.
Blessings to you and Mountain Man.

Looks like Mt. Man has a long list of things that must be done before winter really sets in.
It’s funny how curious the guineas and turkeys are, seems like they want to be right where the action is.
I love the last photo. Indeed; why walk when you can fly?

Lucky horses! Mine are off the pastures for the year. I am hoping that next year we will be able to make more pasture ground for them.

Though I look forward to the holiday season, November is also one of my least favorite months.
No sun,
No snow,
No color,
November!

Well, I love November, It’s when deer season (gun) comes in , cool enough to cut firewood without burning up and of course the month I was born. So what’s not to like lol!

I love November but of course I don’t have to be out working in the weather. The turkeys and guineas are just too funny, little busybodies. The barn will be great when finished. Have a nice week ahead. Give Faeden a hug from us!

I’ve got an orange stripey that has to stick his nose into what we are doing. He is in his glory if we do anything out in the yard–I swear he thinks we are out there just for him!
Maybe he is part turkey.

The only thing good about November is Thanksgiving and the official begin of the holiday season. I absolutely hate this sudden onset of WINTER – one day it’s nice and sunny and 70 degrees, and the next we have frost and dreary skies and the wind bites and goes right through you.
You, though, are somehow able to capture a beauty I never knew existed in November.
And your flock gets funnier with each story!

More pasture means less feed to purchase and I understand that reasoning! Walking is good for us all.
But Mike would have taken the Kubota too. And the turkeys just keep getting prettier. . .

He has got to be one of the hardest working men I have ever seen. The way he works so much and the way he looks in general reminds me so much of my dad.

I have a song in my head after seeing your birds…’ten little ducks went out to play, over the hills and far away…’
Those last weeks before Christmas are the worst, always dark and wet, we are having a storm outside right now!

Is there a turkey or guinea who is the leader of the pack? I got such a kick out of this post….especially since I have really been under the weather…sick for over a week, spent several days in the hospital and have 30 days of the most restrictive diet in the world which means Thanksgiving will not be too much fun for me!
Check my poem today about hospitals…I tried to make folks laugh!!

Now that was cute. I love the way the turkeys and guineas all stick together and how they follow you both around. I think we’ll have to get some of those one day. I remember November in the mountains of British Columbia being quite dull and foggy….here in Kansas just about every day is a sunny one. I still like the fog though. Have a wonderful day. Maura
