Hen Pecked

We got another foot of snow yesterday and more is on the way. This is what it looked like.

Now I promise you I’m not complaining. In fact, I grabbed my snowshoes and Toby, our newfie and Logan, our shepherd and we headed out.

We hiked all over sometimes stopping for breaks.

We played games.

And admired beautiful vistas.

And the snow kept picking up steam (although I guess that’s the wrong word to use with snow) until we had white out conditions.

Didn’t slow us down. I kept throwing Logan’s stick and he kept on chasing it.

Toby discovered a new game called “jump on the back of Mom’s snowshoes and watch her fall.” He learned if he got a running start, he could catapult me into the atmosphere.

If you’ve ever tried to get up in waist deep snow with long objects on your boots you know it’s not easy. And while I was struggling in the snow, Toby got bored and went to help Logan.

Finally we headed home.

We stopped by Mountain Man’s shop to pick up Lilly. (She has inherited his work ethic.)

We headed inside.

I made a cup of Green Mountain Coffee’s Special Edition Egg Nog flavor coffee. (Have to get in a plug for Vermont products) and sat down at the computer to see the pictures. I had over 100 pictures. There were sure to be some great ones there but as I looked at them, they were awful. There’s a spot over the center of most of them. Time for Mountain Man’s assistance.

“Hey, Mountain Man, what’s wrong with my camera?”

“What did you do to the lens? It has scratches all over it.”

Oh, no. Now I remember. This is what happened.

The turkeys did it. Oh, well. I learned another valuable lesson in farm life. Never let turkeys near glass objects.

I hope all of you have a great weekend. How is the weather where you live?

I am so sorry about your lens! What kind of camera are you using?

That snow looks serious. Beautiful, but serious.

I had to laugh at the turkey looking straight into the camera. The expression on her face is priceless : ).

Oh gosh does that ever look cold. Much too chilly for this thin blooded tropical gal. But the snow does look pretty and the pups seem to be enjoying it.

Too funny about the turkey and the camera lens (though I hope it isn’t really scratched and only just a little messy). I’ve heard of photographers putting a watermark on their photos but you have your very own mark…a turkeymark. :D

Oh, goodness, turkeys and camera lenses don’t mix. I’ll remember that. If it makes you feel any better, I have annoying fibre that somehow got stuck to my camera lens. It’s in the upper left hand corner. It’s visibile in EVERY photo that has a blue or white background. I keep trying to convince myself it gives my photos a vintage look like crackling film. Yet, it’s not working.

Wow, you sure are getting a lot of snow. I’m always praying for your safety from the snow. It’s beautiful, but I imagine too much is hard on the buildings, animals and people. I still enjoyed your photos very much. I have never seen that much snow in one place. We get snow here in my part of Oregon. It’s just a sprinkle compared to what you’re getting. Oh, in one photo it looks like the barn is almoss covered in snow!!!

Your dogs are so cute!!! Thanks for sharing your adventures with them :) :) Have a great week. I hope the snow lets up for awhile so you can enjoy some sunshine!!! Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

My lens always has something on it from they grandkids. Everytime I point it at the youngest he attacks it. Same with the video camera. I got some filters for Christmas that I put over it now (inexpensive ones) so that the actual lens is protected, and I will make sure it is on if I ever hang out with the turkeys.

We got quite a bit of rain on Friday night/Saturday morning and then while Calypso was arriving there was a sudden, albeit brief, hail storm. I think he was trying to bring some of your weather here. But the California sun will win in the long run I think…in fact, right now it is quite bright with blue skies outside in the 50s. I am putting some coffee into a thermos and off to visit someone special!

Ha ha! That is so funny about the turkeys. I was quite enjoying the photos and didn’t notice any scratches but I’m certain you’ll need a new one! Spring seems to come so late there! We are having an early spring, strangely enough, which usually means some sort of freak snow storm is on the way.

The weather here IS the weather there. It WAS white-out here a big chunka the day but, unlike you more intrepid souls, I reamined on my side of the window to observe it. Impressive and (more and more, as far as I’m concerned) oppressive.

I’ll bet there aren’t more than a very, very few cameras out there that have had their vision impaired by turkeypeck. Ahh… the country life, eh?
