Hard Headed

I’ve been told I’m stubborn. In fact you can call me down right hard headed at times but the other day, my hard head served me well.

It was a beautiful Indian summer morning. The sky was a brilliant blue, not a breeze stirred the leaves and the weather was cool enough to prevent bugs from swarming. A fabulous day for a ride. And as I do every morning, I saddled Khrysta and we headed to our work ring. She went through her exercises perfectly and seemed in good spirits. We then walked a lap around the ring as we always do. No problem at all. I got on her and we started around the ring. I was relaxed and not paying as much attention as I should. After all, she’s in the ring every day and it’s right by her pasture as well.

Something spooked her and she went way up in the air and at the same time twisted her body to run away. She caught me by surprise and I came right off, plop on the ground. And, I landed right on the side of my head. My helmet shattered and I got the wind knocked out of me. Khrysta, now no longer scared, wandered over to me and stood by my side. I was so thankful she didn’t run over me or I would have been squished.

I have a concussion, my neck is kind of messed up at the moment and I’m all kinds of sore. I’ll be taking a few days away from the computer to do some recuperating.

Mountain Man, of course, is upset and wants to find me a quiet old pony. I’m just thankful it wasn’t worse. Always, always if you get on a horse wear your helmet. You just never know when it will save your life.

Double Ouch!

I've done that myself on or/falling off horseback and I know how much it can stun and hurt you.

Thank goodness for your helmet and your good sense in wearing it. I hope you're on the mend soon.

owww, hope your ok.

Have you ever thought about just getting a minature horse instead, just to keep as a pet…….hope M.M is reading…….good compromise ?

They should start calling them "Spooks" instead of horses ? That's why I don't like riding them.

OH! MY! GOSH! I'm so glad you had on a helmet! I know of old pony's who get scared and do the same thing.

You rest, now! You hear!

You did get checked out by the doctor right? So thankful you had on the helmet. I've been dumped off a horse a couple of times and feel for you where you are sore. Some good ole stinky Yager's Liniment will fix you right up. My father swore by that stuff, it is actually a horse liniment but safe for people. I use it too!

I am so glad that you were wearing a helmet. I have to admit that when I used to go riding (many years ago), I never did. After reading what happened to you, if I ever do go riding again, I will be sure to wear a helmet.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

Didn't realize people even wear helmets when riding horses–good thing you did! Will be praying for your quick recovery. Good thing MM was home when that happened too. Take care of yourself, take it easy now.

You may be stubborn, but you are very lucky. I wouldn't think of wearing a helmet just to ride a horse, but I would for a motorcycle. Thank God you are smarter than I am.

Oh my goodness! I surely pray you'll be feeling well in no time. And this is why my horses are now pasture ornaments and hay burners -smile-.
I'm too old to heal quickly and pain hurts twice as bad now.

I rarely ride anymore. After years in the horsey business, breaking youngsters, and breaking many bones, I finally got smart! Three back surgeries helped to wisen me up!
I am so glad you are alright. I also commend you for wearing a helmet. I teach riding to young children and cannot express to the parents enough that a helmet is a must-for all ages! You would not believe the parents who think "little suzie" will be too hot or it will mess up the "riding hairdo". Oy!
Please take care of yourself. I am sure Mountain Man was worried sick about you.
As far as Krysta goes. She was just being a silly horse. Our Arabians are the silliest!
Blessings to you, Misha

I never wore a helmet as a kid on my horse but I made sure both my kids did when they were taking riding lessons. A bike helmet has saved The Wild Man's bacon three times now!

You POOR THING! I'll keep you in my prayers and am so glad this didn't happen while MM was out of town. I KNOW he'll be taking good care of you!

Glad it wasn't worse, but saddened that you have to suffer at all. Feel better soon.

Also I have a box here with your name on it. Have had it ready for too long…just waiting to have a bit of cash for the postage. I am so sorry I haven't gotten it off to you yet. Please accept my apologies.
