Happy Birthday Mountain Man

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments. Some of you have concerns about the blog change and I wanted to reassure you, I’ll still be blogging about our life and, of course, the turkeys. But my interests have expanded this year and I want my blog to change along with me. I think, I hope (got my fingers crossed) you will enjoy the changes.
But to the most important event of the day. Mountain Man is 60! Yes, 1-11-11 finds Mountain Man reaching that momentous milestone. And just in case you had thoughts he would relax and eat birthday cake all day, no way. He’s been hard at work drafting plans for a solar drying kiln and he’s starting the building today.
I’m into retrospectives I suppose but I just had to go back and share Marvelous Mountain Man at age 59 with you.
Mountain Man in the Ozarks wondering if he’ll ever finish the renovations. “Why did I start this? Tell me again?”

Mountain Man teaching the inept Mountain Woman. “Remember, if you’re out house hunting and the walls look like this do not, I repeat do not, ever buy the house.”

And my interests have certainly tried his patience at times. Whether it’s having to to be a human antenna for hours while I try to get online in a place with no WiFi. “Just another minute sweetie. And maybe move a little to the left while you’re at it.”

Or moving acres of pasture fencing several times a year just because I love hay burners.

He never once complains even if it means having to caucus with those darn birds about the barn renovations.

And no matter how hard at work, he always has time to stop and talk with the dogs.

And patiently allows them to be underfoot while he works.

Even the the smallest of creatures is worthy of rescue even though it takes hours from his day.

I wonder how he does it all and every now and then I see him tired.

“How can he keep this up Mom?” But he does. It’s who he is and he never stops.

And after toiling all day long, he dons an apron and cooks a feast worthy of Bobby Flay.

Never complaining, always positive.
Happy Birthday Mountain Man! You are my hero, my inspiration. Here’s to 60 more fabulous years!

I’m taking it for granted that you know how very blessed you are to have your Mountain Man!! Happy Birthday to one of the hardest working men I’ve ever seen. Ever thought about calling DIY Network and telling them about your hubby? I’d sure watch!!

Happy Birthday Mountian Man!
My boyfriend has the same work ethic as Mountian Man. He always needs to be doing something or “You’re burning daylight”. I have come to realize rough and calloused, but strong, working hands are the best hands to hold.
I love to bop in at see what’s happening at Red Pine Mountian, especially with that crazy poultry gang you have.

Kudoes to eHarmony. eHarmony sure found you a great match. I’ve read about you and Carl from soon after you came together through the digital match maker. It’s been fun traveling through this last year hearing about a man that takes life in stride and makes things better in all areas whether it’s saving a barn or saving a Missouri backwoods house from deteriration or saving the smallest of creatures. He’s kind to nature, animals, and most of all to you, Sara. You truly have come from ashes to beauty.
Many blessings on Carl, your home (including all animals, flocks, and …. bears), and you.
Happy Birthday Carl. I hope to meet the legend of Vermont in person someday.

Happy Birthday Mountain Man! I love the picture of him holding the bird. Awesome. He does work hard! If he is like my husband, he gets satisfaction from being on the go and completing tasks to make our life manageable.

Happy Birthday to your Mountain Man! I found your blog last week from another blog. I was thrilled because my sister has a farm on 35 acres in the Northern Kingdom, too!! Myself, and my 2 little guys, visited this past summer for a few weeks. My boys did not want to go home. They just loved farm life and I must say, I did, too (except for the incredibly pesty deer flies!). It is my dream, no, maybe my goal, to move close to my sister and have my own small farm in the very near future. I love your writing and your photos! The photos make me miss VT so much! I look forward to the coming changes!
Peace, love and blessings to you both!

Sorry I’m a day late but I hope Mountain Man had a wonderful 60th birthday yesterday. My 60th will be in July this year. Remember when we thought 60 was old? It’s all a state of mind anymore and Mountain Man seems to be taking it in stride and looking good doing it.
