Groovin On A Sunday Afternoon

Yesterday evening, Mountain Man was in the kitchen cooking, the radio was playing our favorite oldies from the 60s and I was reading a great book on how modern communication is having an impact on us and as I turned the pages, I came across this statistic:
Ten percent of people under 25 TEXT while having sex.
That is wrong on so many levels I don’t know where to begin. I called out, “Hey, Mountain Man, you won’t believe this.” And I told him and he didn’t. Well, that started us on a long conversation about the good old days of romance and courting. A simpler time for dating surely.
Today, as we go about our routine, the lyrics to one of my favorite oldies floats through my head.
“We’ll keep on spending sunny days this way
We’re gonna talk and laugh our time away.”
Companionship. Simple days together. Here’s how our Sunday looks.
Minis snooze companionably knowing these warm days will soon be gone.

In the Poultry Palace, birds of a feather flock together. (It’s okay to groan.)

And speaking of birds, don’t you think my Salmon Faverolle resembles a mini Mountain Man? Beard, sideburns and that piercing look?

The Sebastopols are out and about searching for grass. Here’s a short video.
And you’ll notice in the middle of the video, they become quite quiet and contemplative. I wonder what they are thinking?
While I’m wandering, Mountain Man (as always) is hard at work. He’s making our yard smaller. Why? Because one of my chores is to clean up after the dogs and at the moment, with my vision out of whack, I keep missing their droppings and when I do two of our dogs head out on a mission to find what I missed. Yuck!

But you can’t be serious if you have goofy newfies around.
And as I compare the simplicity of our days together and the love we share, I think about the young people of today and how fortunate they are in some respects but how complicated their lives are in others and once again the lyrics to another song come to mind; as Maurice Chevalier sang so eloquently:
“The Fountain of Youth is dull as paint
Methuselah is my patron saint
I’ve never been so comfortable before
Oh, I’m so glad that I’m not young anymore!”
Enjoy each other’s company, laugh often and cherish real moments.
Thanks for visiting us.

Love the red chicken, oh heck , they are all pretty! So true, I wouldn’t want to be a young person today. They missed out on all the fun we had as kids. They have no childhood these days.Their music today is trashy. Ours is classic. Good post. Still sad about poor Pete.

That is a crazy statistic for sure–hard to believe! Your photos are beautiful! I don’t really think that chicken looks like Mountain Man though; I think you are just so in love with him that you see him everywhere! What a nice guy to make your yard smaller to make things easier for you–he’s so considerate, so much like my dad was.

I’m totally baffled by the numbers of people who cannot carry on a simple conversation. They don’t even have to be texting! It seems there are several generations of people whose conversation is comprised of hmmmm, like, ya know, actually and as far as having a coherent thought put together in their head and exit their mouth…HA, doesn’t happen.
“You know, like, I’m all for clean air; please join me in the fight for clean air so my kid and everyone else can enjoy this planet like my grandparents did.”
So, the implication is if I don’t join you, I’m not for clean air? And, most of our grandparents worked their finger nails off AND could think AND speak intelligently.
Grrrrrrr, please help me off this soap box before I fall off and hurt myself! -LOL-

This is one of the BEST blog posts I’ve ever seen! I also agree with ALL the previous comments….I would not trade growing up in my generation for youth, ever! 59 and loving it!

Sara, your pictures and videos always make me desire to be in the country more. I can tell you really enjoy the Vermont country and Mountain Man seems to always keep himself busy. Busy hands make for a peaceful heart. Don’t you think?
Misty rain is falling here today. I am hoping to get outside this afternoon and do some yard and garden cleanup. It certainly has been a great fall up to now. Hasn’t it? It sad to see the plants winding down and getting ready for the winter cold weather but I have some inside projects to keep me busy this winter so that will help get me through to the Spring again.
Car repair and yard work seems to be getting in the way of my patio project. My daughter’s car needs to have some work done. A new muffler, a new front axle on the driver side, and two new wheel lug nut studs. That all needs to be done before the weather gets too cold. I hate working on cars in cold weather. We just got this car. As you can see, it’s an old clunker to get to work and back until she can get her income tax return to buy a much better car. Old Dad comes to the rescue because you know he can fix anything. I still have her believing at 27 that I can fix anything, build anything, and know everything. No, not really but she knows there are quite a few things I can do. One thing we didn’t know when we bought the car was it had a gas tank leak. I don’t do gas tanks so we had to take it to the shop to fix that item.
Have a great day and I’m still praying your eyes will get back to normal real soon.

Everything is harder these days in spite of and because of technology. Nobody communicates face-to-face and things really get screwed up. I find my kids “talk” in a whole different way than we used to at that age–nobody hangs out on the corner, uses the telephone, or writes letters. It’s kind of sad, you know?

Good grief! Texting during sex?…someone’s not doing things right!
Cool pictures. We had 3 geese years ago but they continually chased me around the yard trying to bite (peck, bill, chew..whatever geese do with their bills..) and we finally put them in the freezer…er, yes, AFTER their demise..LOL
