Excitement in the Pasture!

I’m behind on thanking you for your kind comments because it has been such an incredible week in the Northeast Kingdom. Day after day of sunshine and highs in the 50s made it impossible for me to spend one minute inside. But, it came to an end yesterday afternoon.
A big storm was scheduled to roll through last night with heavy rains and high winds so I locked the horses up in their stalls. But while the horses are away, the turkeys will play so this morning when I went to the barn, I found a flock of them grazing on the far side of the pasture. Their favorite snack is the residual grain kernels in horse poop.
Khrysta’s stall window looks out over the pasture and she was fixated on these intruders. When I let her out, she started making all kinds of snorting noises to let those turkeys know she was displeased and then she started running around the pasture to make sure they left.
The intruders.

Khrysta signals her displeasure with her tail. Sure wish you could have heard the noises she was making.
.
Khrysta makes sure no turkeys remain.

Darn turkeys, they might eat all the good grass.
Beautiful mare!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a turkey…a live one anyways. I’ve almost stepped on quite a few partridges in the woods though…scares the daylights out of me when they “flap” away.
I know what you mean about the weather, I’ve never ever seen spring come this early.

She is such a beautiful horse! I love the way she moves.

((HA)) that is amazing… she really is making sure of them being outa her space!
My mare would no sooner run up to the top -of any field- and look forboding as Khysta did. Your mare is lovely!!!

Khrysta is so lovely! Look at her go!
Do turkeys eat the grass? You have such a nice pasture, bordered by those trees!

Well if I ever need a Turkey Patrol, I am going to give Khrysta a call. She’s a natural.

Perfect! Bet she’s no help come Thanksgiving though! lol

I didn’t know horses cared so much about their huge pasture! Poor little turkeys.

My horses always chase the deer out of THEIR pasture LOL

That’s so funny….she sure didn’t like them turkeys hanging around!

Hi there. My husband and I just enjoyed reading your blog again.
He was born in Vermont, a place we both love, and he really enjoys the scenery you show us. His family has a place in the NEK, Greensboro to be exact, so he loves trying to figure out where you live by looking at the photos. So far, his guess is in the area up around Troy/Coventry/Irasburg.
We both love your photos; they let us “be there” even when we’re not.

Thanks everyone for visiting
Cactus Jack, Thanks for the compliment. I think you are one of the prettiest boys I have ever seen.
Karen, I never know what my mare is thinking. She keeps me on my toes.
Alan, the turkeys are all over here. I know what you mean about partridges. They are all over the woods. I thought spring was early but it’s kind of snowing today.
Gifts of the Journey, thank you for visiting.
AllHorseStuff, thank you for the compliment. My mare protects her space.
Pony Girl, Mountain Man said he doesn’t think the turkeys eat grass. It will be another month or so before the grass is around. I think our pasture is pretty too.
Vixen, Maybe you can make a vest for Khrysta for her turkey patrol and I’ll be happy to loan her to you.
Robynn, I would be so sad if anyone tried to eat the turkeys that run around here. When game bird seasons starts, I do all I can to keep them on our farm. I’ll have to keep Khrysta locked up so she doesn’t chase them to someone else’s property
Karen, horses are very protective of their territory and the turkeys have plenty of places to visit.
Reddnuppy, that’s something I’d love to see, your horses chasing deer. They are brave!
Tracey, thanks. No, she doesn’t like those turkeys.
A Valdese Blogger, thanks for visiting. Your doggie is really cool too!
Carol, Wow, a Vermonter! That’s exciting. We’re in Danville and Greensboro is a lovely place. Thanks for visiting me.

‘Morning. Danville is so beautiful! We pass through there on our way to Greensboro…we also have friends in Hardwick. When I grow up, I’d love to live up that way. Til then, visiting will have to do!

Krysta is beautiful, I enjoyed the video of her,… what a proud and assertive (!) trip she made to check out if the turkeys were gone. Lots of turkeys here, a flock goes through my back yard every few days. My cat comes to attention looking at them, but they might be a bit big for her to handle.

I love seeing things like this. Most people don’t know that a horse would react like this to an intruder. They only think that they are docile animals that some people like to ride. Horses can have strong personalities, just like people do.

I left a little something for you, at my place, today.

Very pretty horse and you have such a lovely area to enjoy. I have turkeys that live in the woods behind my house – I see them often in the morning in the yard – until I come out of the house – then off they go.

Wow, she looks so regal protecting her space. She is lucky to have such a beautiful pasture to enjoy.

Cedar, that’s wonderful you have turkeys too. Yes, they would be rather large for a cat
Ratty, I have learned this year that horses really do have very strong personalities and each one is different.
Neas, Thank you! I’ll be over.
Mike, you have turkeys too! They are so much fun.
Five O’Clock, I think she looks regal but I’m prejudiced

Sassy Dog and Lin, Thanks for visiting!

Real wild turkeys? Wow! Nothing but darn ol’ crows where I live! My cats start carrying on and making noises, too, when they see crows sitting up in the trees! LOL
