Ever Changing

Are you having strange weather where you live? I’ve read about the mid-west snowstorms and the cold weather that has settled into the south but here in the Northeast Kingdom, we are also having strange weather.

Unbelievably, on Saturday, our temperatures started to climb and rain started to fall. Mountain Man thought it was time to gather more wood. Yes, the rain was soaking him but with temperatures hovering near 50 and horses and poultry cheering him on, he managed to get a lot done.

By afternoon, what little snow we had was gone. Green grass again! Mountain Man was thrilled but before he had time to enjoy it, huge snow flakes started to fall and the temperatures started to plummet.

And by the time we woke up, the green grass was once again covered in snow and the 50s had managed to morph into 9 degrees.

Mountain Man retreated to his shop to work on repairing saws grumbling about the dang cold weather and threatening this will be our last winter in Vermont.

Oh, say it ain’t so Mountain Man! I love our fairy tale farm with mountains that appear dipped in powdered sugar.

And no matter where I look, I love to watch the sky.

Blue sky, dark clouds, dark sky, fluffy white clouds. Can you feel the cold air?

Do you remember the artificial white Christmas trees so popular in the 60s? Well, that’s what our snow covered pines look like to me. As a child, I always wanted one of those glamorous trees but alas my family always had a traditional tree. But I finally got my wish and now I’m surrounded by them.

I wish you could be with me to walk in the pine glades. I can’t imagine wanting to leave here.

I’ve never lived in a place where the colors change right before your eyes.

Ah, well, after all it is 9 degrees and my fingers are numb (I learned you can’t wear mittens and operate a camera at the same time) and my battery light is flickering so I shall leave you with one last look at the Northeast Kingdom.

Mountain Man is determined we are leaving but I’ll tell you a secret. I want to stay.

May all your days be enchanted. Thanks for visiting us.

I love the ral live Christmas trees dusted with snow. So pretty! It’s so cold down here. I left water dripping from a faucet outside last night. At 340p in the afternoon the ice is still there and the dogs water bowl still has a big chunk of ice in it. It was in the 20s last night. Hard freeze.Colder tonight! Thanks for the pics of your winter wonderland. Hugs and kisses to Faeden.

We are having strange weather here in Arkansas too. It’s cold enough here to look like your photos, but it just hasn’t snowed yet. Rumor has it that I might wake up to your winter wonderland, but we’ll see. If it’s this cold, there might as well be snow on the ground to have something to enjoy about being so cold.

Thanks for the wonderful photos! I love seeing them all!

Temperatures have been bouncing around here in Nebraska as well. Forties one day and high of 9 degrees the next day. We had a nice three inch snow that covered everything nice and fresh and white. Oh, well, except for the 30 MPH wind with the snow it was nice. Sometimes it nice to be retired and just watch the weather from a nice cozy arm chair snuggled into a snuggie with a warm laptop on my lap catching up on reading blogs. Ha, it makes up for all those years of being out in the weather because of being essential personel.

I received my first seed catalog a couple weeks ago and now my mind is already planning next year’s garden. It will be bigger, better, and more wierd than last year. My oh my what will the neighbors think. Well, I don’t think anything shocks them anymore but I’ll keep trying.

Have a great Vermont winter day.

Oh, it is lovely there, just lovely. I am envious of the beauty that surrounds you. I know it is cold and it is a hard life, but your VIEW! Wow. I live vicariously through you (and those silly turkeys). ;)

Well, we’re having rain here–and that’s pretty normal for Seattle. And the rivers are flooding–but that’s normal, too. However, the flooding has set new record levels on one of the rivers this month. There is a creek at the end of my street, but it is around 25-30 feet lower than the houses, so we are not in any danger.

Go here if you want to see this river in action:

Love the pictures of your trees and pasture with it’s dusting of snow. If I want to see blue sky, I come look at your pictures. Our skies are most often gray! ;-)

Very changeable weather here too! But not near as pretty as yours tho!! Nothing green here anymore.
A winter in Missouri sounds very balmy to me!!! I am getting tired of living in these harsh winters.
I spent 2 winters of my life away from them and they were the best ones of my life. Christmas without snow was odd but not a biggie.
The WA winter rains bothered others but not me. I had close contact with family here that let me know I was sooooo spoiled missing out on all the winter crud.

That weather is as wild as Cleveland! What a huge drop in temperature. I can’t picture you leaving your farm unless to another one. I think Mountain Man has his work cut out for him convincing you to leave.

I love the trees when they look like that, too! We had flocked Christmas trees all over the county yesterday. I wish I had taken some pictures. Merry Christmas – enjoy your snow!

So beautiful, even if it is so cold. We’re having unseasonably cold weather for December in Ohio, got into the single digits at night and only in the teens during the day this week. I scraped away the snow so the dogs could find some green grass underneath, only to find a layer of ice underneath, so they’re having trouble getting a firm foothold on the ground when they squat. Our weatherman is promising we’ll get above freezing next week, so we have that going for us. Hope it’s a warmer, peaceful weekend on Red Pine Mountain.
