Don’t You Love The Mail?

I’d like to thank everyone for your comments. Truly, they are the highlight of my days.
I know some of you are still suffering from the after effects of the October snow storm. Basically, it passed us by except for no internet service and a dusting of snow. I did enjoy watching the geese. They were uncertain at first but quickly decided snow is a good thing. And of course, white geese on white snow is a lovely sight.

As quickly as the snow came, it was gone and Halloween was here. Time for tiny horses to seek treats.

But Halloween this year was special for another reason; my new Sebastopol geese started their journey from Michigan to Vermont. I’ve known for months I was getting these geese from Cottage Rose Birds n’ Blossoms. At first, they couldn’t be shipped because of the heat and then when the weather cooperated, my eyes were in no condition to allow me to take care of them. So they stayed with their Mom and grew and grew and grew. And, eyes ready or not, if they didn’t come now, they wouldn’t make it.
Today, the phone rang and I just knew it was the Post Office. “Are my geese here?”
“Yes,” was the response.
“Are they making noise?” “Yes, they are making quite the racket.”
“I’m on my way.”
“You’d better come to the back door. Just ring the bell.” I arrived at the Post Office and was greeted by a smiling lady. “Do you have a big car?” she asked. “The boxes are quite large.”
Were they ever. I couldn’t believe how big the boxes were. Seriously, if I had to, I could have squashed into one of them. The geese were making noise warning me to get moving, get them home and stop gawking at their boxes.
“Why don’t you pull up to the loading dock and we’ll get them in your car.” Just to give you an idea, here’s one of the giant boxes.
I had a horse stall ready for the geese; a place for them to rest after their long travels. I opened the boxes and there they were; three magnificent Saddleback Sebastopol geese. And wow, were they calm. They just looked at me, hopped out of those giant boxes and got right to work preening their feathers.

And then they decided to groom each other,

Which left my boy with a feather in his mouth.

And I remember the old days when a boy pulled your pony tail in school it usually meant he liked you (okay, so we’re talking about the dark ages here.) But I’m thinking perhaps, just perhaps I will have baby goslings in the spring.
Thanks so much for visiting us and if you’d like to learn more about the Saddlebacks and see some pictures of my new babies’ relatives, just click HERE.

That box is huge! That’s really something they have boxes especially made to send birds through the mail! Glad your geese are adjusting to their new home so quickly. I really thought you had enough by now. I’d like to see a picture of Mountain Man surrounded by all you feathered friends. I bet his expression would be priceless!

That first picture looks like it’s right out of a movie! Those geese are detectives or explorers or pioneers or something. It could inspire a whole story.
