Distracted

Have you ever had one of those days where you were distracted? Where you couldn’t concentrate on the task at hand because you were excited? Yesterday was one of those days for me because it was October 21st. And every October 22nd, for the last three years, it’s snowed.
“It isn’t going to snow.” Mountain Man said. And he left to work on re-roofing our house.
And I went about my morning chores singing “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.” But before too long, I was distracted again; by the turkeys this time.
Mountain Man was hard at work replacing our roof.

Up and down the ladder he went.

The turkeys, always wanting to be helpful, decided to follow him.
“Is this how I get up there?”

“Maybe I’ll use this green thing.”

And with that, my brave turkey made it up on the roof with visions of helping Mountain Man put down shingles.

Enter Mountain Woman with the bright idea of training the rest of the turkeys to use the ladder. I decided to use grain and it was working.

But with turkeys, everything involves a caucus.

And they decided to send in the tallest member to snatch the grain off the ladder.

I was making progress. I really was; until the farrier arrived and my plans came to an end. Off I went to hold horses while they got a pedicure and the turkeys decided they could be helpful to Mountain Man in ways that did not involve climbing a tall green thing.
They checked on the layout for my new greenhouse. “Looks okay to me.”

And the guineas, not wanting to be overshadowed by a bunch of old turkeys, decided they could take over the tractor duties.
“All aboard.”

And me, yes, I was still distracted as I went in to do household chores. Snow, turkeys, snow, turkeys. My brain was filled with visions of endless possibilities.
As I poured our water for dinner, my distracted mind didn’t notice the bubbles forming in the glass.
Mountain Man, always observant and never distracted, noticed right away. “Did you rinse the dishes today?”
Woops!
And when I woke up this morning, I was delighted. It had snowed. For the 4th October 22nd in a row.

And I knew it would. I was certain of it. Just as I know the turkeys will climb the ladder one day. All is possible. On Red Pine Mountain, dreams do come true.
Enjoy your weekend one and all and thank you for visiting us.

It snowed! LOL

I have a feeling you’re going to do a post in the future and the turkeys will all be on the roof.
I’m glad it snowed.
Have a terrific day.

Your poultry stories get funnier and funnier – isn’t it amazing the way your menagerie cooperates with your plot?
(Love the caucus!)
And to think I’m complaining because I had to put on a jacket after sunset tonight. Had the back door open all day.
You must get pictures of the turkeys in the snow!

Those turkeys are so smart and helpful! We never had snow so early I think but it’s raining with a cold wind, close enough to winter…

We had a layer of icy snow on the deck this morning, which means I really have to get my butt in gear and get a sweater crocheted for my dog and buy some boots for her so we can walk in the frigid snow that will soon stay
Love the turkeys, they are just too cool
