Day to Day (Life in The Slow Lane)

Thanks one and all of your comments. I appreciate all of your thoughtful insights and you always make me feel so much better.

What’s life like as we approach the end of summer on Red Pine Mountain?

Day after day of beautiful weather finds Mountain Man working on one project after another. He’s started making closet doors for the house in the Ozarks. (By the way, if anyone would like to buy a Mountain Man redesigned farm in the Ozarks, it’s for sale.)

And he just finished a vanity made out of our pine for a house here in Vermont. First coat of oil is on.

He’s digging holes for permanent fencing around our barn with horsey advice of course.

Should it go here?

Or what about here?

Mountain Man digs all his post holes the old fashioned way leading Cash and Flower to wonder if he is employing the proper technique.

While waiting for Mountain Man to return with cement, Cash and Khrysta share a kiss;

before Cash leaves for the important job of supervising Mountain Man. “Why did you get all these hay burners?”

“Well done Mountain Man. You can leave now.”

And me. Well, I’ve been hanging out in the Poultry Palace. Watching my turkeys leap to new heights.

And discovering guineas believe the grass truly is greener on the other side of the fence.

The phrase “eat like a bird” has taken on an entirely new meaning.

I think we have a rooster in the flock but shh, don’t tell Mountain Man.

And the day wouldn’t be complete without a game of hide and seek with the dogs.

And that is life on Red Pine Mountain at the end of the summer. How do you spend your days?

I’m sorry to hear your farm in the Ozarks is for sale. I know it has been a labor of love. Have you put together a sales flyer ( website ) for it that we could pass on to friends who might be interested?

MM does such nice work … I forwarded this one to John who will think I’m asking for new cabinets when he sees it.

I don’t spend my days nearly as beautifully as you do yours. Sleep until the digs lick me awake, do a load of laundry, clean up the kitchen, do computer STUFF, watch tv, water the flowers, take the dogs out, grab a bite, bathe, and go to work. That’s about it.

By the way, I loved the previous post in which you have a photo of Mountain Man ‘riding’ a horse. Precious!

*sigh* I wish hubby’s job didn’t have to keep him near Ottawa, Ontario, or I’m sure we’d already be on a plane to see it :(
Your days sound heavenly. I’m currently reading a pile of books I got on Amazon on how to start a small hobby farm…I’ll let you know if the chicken coops even come close to your poultry palace, but somehow, I don’t think anything can compare to yours ;-)
Have a great day!!

I’m worried about the rooster. Can we make him a turkey costume? Would one of the chickens take him under her wing (thinking along the lines of Charlottes Web).
Love the wood working. My husband did beautiful work as do his brothers..you do get spoiled by the good stuff. It is a labor of love!

That vanity is beautiful! He does such nice work. I’d bet the place in the Ozarks is a wonderful place. I hope someone buys it who can value it for the special care taken to build it.

LOL at the animals getting out of their pens. Will you have to put fence up on top or just keep putting them back in the pen? They look so happy.

I wish we were at the end of summer here…heat index is 112 today.
Too too hot. My hubby, like yours, digs all his post holes the old-fashioned way. I don’t know how they do it.
By the way, I covet that little spotted baby. Forever.

I am pretty envious of your life and MMs wood work. I wish I could buy the place in the Ozarks and move out of the city!!!!

Your day looks like much more fun than I had. I worked, made a dentist appointment, a mammogram appointment, read, walked the dog with my husband, did some blogging and pet my cats.

Oh, I love summer at your place. I was noticing some of the blue gray color in the clouds and it’s amazing…Oh, loved how the horses “helped” Mountain Man with the post hole digging. Oh, my goodness, that vanity is beautiful!!! I’d have one like that in my house.

Correct me if I”m wrong, were you planning on selling the Ozarks home? I can’t remember. I’m sorry that you have to part with it :( I do hope a nice family will buy it and will love it just as much as you and Mountain Man have loved that place…and will keep it up!!!

I like to spend my summer knitting, sipping coffee, going for long drives…I love road trips…and whatever else strikes my fancy :) :) Have a great summer!!!! Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

p.s. Your turkeys are funny…little fugitives :) :) :)
