Just a quick update. We are no longer stranded and one of our roads is operational again. I’ll write more about that later but today is devoted to “Comments For Charity.”
If you are a regular reader of this blog, you might know I got the idea of donating money for comments from Karen Zemek. I tried that for two months but then decided to change things a little.
I’m always trying to think of ways to reward my readers and those of you who comment regularly so last month I decided to take the two people who left the most comments and allow them to pick a charity of their choice for a donation of 25.00.
The results were very close but Lin of Duck and Wheel With String blog and Karen Zemek were the two winners. Karen chose for her charity, Covenant House, a wonderful charity involved in helping homeless youth.
Lin decided to let me choose the charity for her. In light of the recent Memorial Day holiday, I wanted a charity that helps military men and women and their families. I headed off to Charity Navigator to see if I could find any new charities that had top ratings and where the money went to actually help people instead of administrative costs and salaries. (I urge all of you to visit Charity Navigator if you are thinking of donating money to a cause).
I selected Disabled American Veterans’ Charitable Service Trust. If you’ve never heard of this charity, please take the time to visit them and see what great work they do for our men and women in uniform.
For this month, my top commentors can pick the charity of their choice or a 25.00 gift certificate to Kiva.org. I’ve been working with Kiva for about four years now and admire the work they do. If you are not familiar with Kiva, please check out the link.
Last month, Karen and Lin won by 1 comment each so this month, my top FOUR commentors will be given the opportunity to support the charity of their choice.
Thanks to all of you who visit. You make my day.

You really do have a gracious heart! Now to go check out Kiva.

What a wonderful thing indeed. I’m impressed.
Congratulations to the winners, but most of all to the charities that are the real winners.
Have a terrific day.

Thank you, Sara!! And I love the charity that you chose for me. Although I am really sad that there isn’t a Save The Turkeys foundation. Oh, wait—-there is!! It’s called Red Pine Mountain. Hee! Hee!

Well, I haven’t been really faithful with the comments, but I might have to work on that.

It’s truly a marvelous idea you have and the charities chosen will be most appreciative.

This is great, we need more people in the world like you. I might try to do something similar. My favorite charity is Smile Train but I am always looking to add other good causes. Great job, very inspirational!
