Channeling Lucy Ricardo

Life hasn’t been dull this week. No, in fact, I think I’m channeling Lucy Ricardo lately and I find myself in some most interesting predicaments. And Mountain Man, I can just hear him saying “You have some splaining to do.”

Thursday, Mountain Man arrived home exhausted from a long drive to record breaking temperatures in Vermont. The house was about 90 degrees with 100% humidity. Oh, it was miserable. Surely, that’s not the time to tell him about our new residents. No, I think I’ll wait until he’s had a good night’s sleep. Friday morning at breakfast, I gently say, “I have something to tell you.”

“Oh, no that can only mean trouble. What have you gotten yourself into now?”

“Well, we have some new additions while you were gone. We have a bunch of baby chicks.” And, I told him the story. He was not pleased and who can blame him. I thought of the episode when Lucy brought home 500 chicks before the hen house was ready and then kept them in the house. At least our babies are still in the tack room.

Best to get it all over with at once so I said “And by the way, we have three new mini horses out there too.”

“And why do we have more horses?”

“Well, they are rescues and they were in need of a home and we’ve got the room after all.”

Mountain Man didn’t blink at the addition of the new minis but the chickens were another matter. But true to his nature, he got busy on finishing the new housing for the birds and I’ll be sharing that with you but today I want to introduce our three new rescue minis. They will be with us for the summer. Khrysta is happy to be adding to her brood.

And that’s all for now but I can guarantee it will be quite a while before Mountain Man leaves again.

Ha!! Nope, I think you can go to the bank on that one! : ) Those minis are adorable though and the group of them look like they’ve been together forever, how sweet! I’m glad they have a delightful and loving place to stay for the summer.

Be well ~Andrea~

Oh those mini horses are adorable…boys or girls? Do you need help with some names?

I watched “I Love Lucy” reruns….and I do remember one where she had baby chicks running all over the house…little yellow fluffballs.

Well, I’m glad Mountain Man wasn’t too displeased with the baby chicks.!!!! That’s nice of him to help build them a house, too!!!!
The weather has been really hot here in Oregon, too. I’m praying for a nice summer rain to cool things down for a couple of days.

Love and hugs, Heather :) :)

I was just going to say, he may think twice before leaving again (but you beat me to it). Those horses are really cute. It so nice that you are offering to foster them. I would probably have a hard time when it came to say goodbye.
I hope the weather get cooler for you. I can stand the heat, but the humidity would just about do me in.

Oh, you really are turning into Lucy, aren’t you? You know, in that episode, they turned up the heat in the den, where they had the chicks, but Little Ricky left the door open, the chicks escaped all over the house, and when Ricky got home, yep, the temperature in the house was 90!

Anyway, they’re ADORABLE! Working at the post office warehouse, I hear their little peeps all night long. Every once in a while, some will come in after the truck has left, and an employee will have to take them to the appropriate post office PRONTO in their own vehicle.

The horses look so happy together! Any problems at all with adjustment?

So what are you now – the horse AND chick whisperer?

Well, you DO have all that room so it is lovely that you’ve taken in those sweet little horses and your farm seems so able to accomodate all the additions, even the wee chickies. Mountain Man, in his usual good natured way, just rolls with the punches and does what needs to be done. Lucky girl, you.

@Mountain Woman, you are too funny. I would think by now nothing would surprise Mountain Man when he comes home. You must really have a way with animals because all the pictures of your animals always reflect peace and contentment. It’s great that you are willing to take in strays and rescues. I think you have finally outgrown your traveling wagon. If you keep up the expanding, you will need a hired hand just to keep up with all the live stock. ;) Just kidding. I think it’s great that you are living the dream life.

Are the chickens meant to be future egg producers? I hope your chicken experience turns out to be a good one.

That’s how I’ve gotten a bunch of my animals…they needed a home. sigh. I’ve a soft spot for saving things.
BTW, Lucy had quite the mouth on her, did you know? She could curse like a sailor.

Hi, That was cute! I’m so glad you have room for the mini’s. The pictures show how happy they are! I just found chicks up at my mothers farm. The neighbor built a chicken coop in the back of the barn and never told my mother! Oh Well, they are using the eggs though and the chicks are cute!
Enjoy the weather! I hope you have fans going in you home!

Rescuing horses sounds really interesting to me. We live in Northern Kentucky and have inherited a farm. Don’t know what we are going to do yet but…..I like the idea of taking in animals that need some extra care.
Would you give me some information on this?
Thanks,
Cindy

I am so glad you are fostering those adorable little horses! Your mare also seems to be enjoying the tiny herd. Why do people get animals they can not take care of? Or they take such poor care of them they animals fail in health.

I am so proud of you…once more you shine and so does Mountain Man!
