Change is In The Air

I woke up this morning to 15 degree weather. Brr, it’s colder here than in Vermont but changing weather is just one thing I’m facing. I do believe change is a recurring theme of my life and also my greatest challenge perhaps because I’m happiest with routine.
I was coping with many issues last week that overwhelmed me. I had a good cry, I moped for a day, let Khrysta console me, I read all your supportive and wonderful comments, I spent time in prayer and then I counted my blessings.
“Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed for the Lord thy God is with thee whereever thou goes.” Words I should never forget but I do at times.
More change is coming to Circling Hawk Ranch but this change I’m going to enjoy. Two new residents are coming to live with us. Here’s the scoop.
For many months, I have been worrying about Khrysta being lonely and I believe her lack of a pasture pal is contributing to her hyper vigilance. However, I’m not ready to take on the responsibility of another full size horse.
I asked for suggestions from my horse knowledgeable friends and they recommended checking into donkeys who are wonderful companions for both equines and humans and are especially helpful for nervous horses.
I did a lot of research because I knew nothing about donkeys and I learned that they are fabulous, entertaining, friendly animals. I also learned that donkeys enjoy having a fellow donkey for a companion and I don’t want any lonely animals.
My search for a donkey started and I didn’t have to look far. So meet the two new residents of Circling Hawk Ranch who will be arriving in January. Both of them are boys (they will be gelded when they are older).
When they arrive, they will not be pastured with Khrysta but they will share a fence line as everyone gets acquainted.
So withoutout further ado, introducing:
Woops, they don’t have names. Can you help? Here they are:
This is our little boy with his Mom:
I’m looking forward to training a team of clicker stars.
And, thanks everyone for all your support. You are a blessing to me.

Oh, the "little boy" (hey that's a good name) is soo sweet!

I love donkeys! We've actually been considering a mini (I even bought the book "The Donkey Companion"). Alas, we've put it off as we have so many other projects that need our attention!

My first thought was Kong, but what would go with that? Maybe Eeyore? Then came Bert & Ernie. That's all I have so far.

"Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed for the Lord thy God is with thee whereever thou goes"
I needed to hear that one, will be using it often.
Good luck with the donkeys. I know a horse bred with a donkey creates a mule. Which one is responsible for the "stubborn old mule" expression???
It's warm here in Quebec, just a little above freezing an now snow

Oh they are cute. I was going to get a donkey if I got another equine type animal, but Darby needed us and we needed him.
I like Mary's suggestion of Bert and Ernie

I love donkeys, too. We have one nearby we visit, named Daisy.(forget about taking a face pic, she nuzzles my arm and I end up with just ear/sky shots, lol.) Just an FYI, We're expecting our first snowfall here in western MA tonite, but it's way warmer than you are. Take care.

Those little guys look adorable. And as to names… I am not sure. I think I'd have to get some personality first to figure them out. Let them grow on you.
Krysta is going to be happy to have friends!

I love the pictures of the donkeys..made me smile:)
I think Dorothy would be a good name for one of them, and then maybe Samson for the other one?

I made a mistake, I reread and saw both are boys..
How about Jackson and Jeremy?
Date: December 05, 2009
You could name one "Hee" and the other "Haw"
Best of luck with your two new blessings!

I love how you are always doing something new with your animals. Now you are adding two donkeys! As for names, I'm sure you'll think of something good.

What a fantastic idea!!! My horse is absolutely crazy about her donkey pasture mates!! She loves them so much!! It only took a day or two and now they are inseperable. I actually feel sad to seperate them when I move Syd from my inlaws. I cant wait to see how it goes!!

Hi, I'm glad your getting two little donkeys, my girlfriend has a couple of donkeys, and she says they are very noisy! But she loves them
I only saw two pictures, the others were blocked.
I'm going to think about names. I'll be back on Sunday!
I have a teeshirt that says, "SAVE YOUR ASS" it is an animal rescue league for donkeys. My friend has a donkey show every summer and people from all over bring there donkeys and show them! Pretty interesting, if I ever came home with a donkey, I think I would have to pack my bags!!! lol

OH!!! I love that you are getting some Donkeys!
Nmes…well, Ithink one must live with each personality and then they actually- almost- name themselves! It will come to you, believe me!
I sure Hope Khrysta thinks highly of them…too!
I am surprised to here that it is actully colder there? Wow.
Well, I am with you woman…I do like routine but the constant change will keep you from a- wanting- it!

Love that Little Boy,… and Alessandra in the first comment said that would be a good name. I'd thought of that too,…but when they arrive and their personalities shine through that will help with the name process. Glad you are back on your game! Hang in there!

Oh,my what a sweetie!
We visit Oatman, Arizona often (it's only about 1/2 hour from where we live during the winter) and there are wild/tamed donkeys roaming the streets. Check out the town on the internet…what fun…

OHH!!!!! I love miniature donkeys!!! They look just precious! Lucky lucky you! My kids came up with Frank and Fred for possible names.
I had my readers name our smaller tractor last spring. It stuck too…Bunky! It was fun!

Oh, how exciting!!! I can't wait to 'meet' them. I've been showing my husband your Mountain Man posts, especially the barn building. Hopefully one day we'll be able to expand our 'family'. : )
Be well! ~Andrea~

You are so thoughtful! I like Bert and Ernie, too, and I also like:
Andy and Barney
John and Paul
Pooh and Piglet or
Eeyore and Tigger.

I like the Ernie and Bert suggestion! That is very cute.
I used to read author Jon Katz’s blog a lot and he has donkeys and LOVES them! I guess they are great animals and warn the other animals of impending intruders–they make LOTS of noise if coyotes and such are around.
It sounds like another fun adventure at your place!
I hope you are doing better this week.
