Catching Up

Thanks everyone for the well wishes for Elizabeth. She is home now and doing great. I haven’t felt like blogging much lately. Too much going on at the moment but I’ll give it a try.

I’ll guess I’ll start with the day of the windstorm that knocked out our power for 24 hours. Mountain Man was cleaning the tracks on the excavator before putting it away for the winter and as always, his sidekick, Lilly was right there.

I decided to go play with the horses. The wind gusts were making them feel frisky.

All around the pasture, they played chase.

Winds were gusting at about 50 mph. Maybe you can tell from looking at Cash’s mane and tail.

When the rain started to fall, it was a race back to the barn.

The power came back on the next day and then it started snowing and the temperatures started to plummet. Mountain Man decided to gather more firewood.

We headed over to New Hampshire to pick up my Christmas present, a new front load washer. Thanks to pre-holiday sales, I was able to afford to replace my ancient washing machine. As you can see, we braved the crowded Vermont interstate.

Then came the excitement of finding my first egg and the birth of Elizabeth and I forgot about the blog but still the temperatures kept plummeting. Today, it is a high of 15 but the sun is shining and heck, you can’t live in Vermont and let a little thing like freezing temperatures keep you inside so I headed out for a hike with the dogs. Of course, they were appropriately attired.

Beautiful blue skies are deceptive. It’s so cold, I can’t feel my fingers.

Our pines remind me of Christmas trees decorated with snow.

We head back home feeling refreshed or maybe freezing is the better word.

And while I walk oh, so carefully to keep from slipping on ice, the dogs have no such qualms and rush back to the house.

But I have to stop and take in the most magnificent Vermont sky and I’m so glad I’m here to see it this winter even though Mountain Man grumbles and wishes he were in the Ozarks.

It’s supposed to be zero tonight but the chickens are providing me with several eggs a day and the power is working and the wood stove is cranking out heat and it just doesn’t get any better than that.

Have a wonderful week everyone and thanks for visiting us.

Sounds like you are just as snug as a bug in a rug up there in Vermont. We here in Nebraska are not quite as cold as there but we are dipping down into the teens quite regularly and have been in the single digits a couple times. The days will still warm up to 40s almost every day.

Have a great day being warmed by the fire.

Whew! I’m glad I didn’t miss anything here. I was off living life and haven’t been around all week. I don’t like doing that as I’m just sure I’m missing something! :) Keep warm, pally!

I know I’ve been remiss with my own blog but at this time of year there is so much to do and so little time to do it in.

Your photos certainly put one into the holiday spirit with the scenes of pines powdered with snow and icy crystals sparkling in the light of the sun. Pretty enough for a Christmas card but far too cold for this old gal.

We had a freeze warning last night (got down into the low 30′s), we awoke to frost covered lawns and roof tops. Yesterday our local plant nurseries were covering their tender plants with frost cloth and John and I battle the chill to cover our small lime and lemon trees. It is supposed to warm up just a smidge the next couple of days and then drop down near freezing come Monday. To be safe we’ve decided to go ahead and pick the few yellow fruit from our lemon tree this Sunday. These low temps have arrived much too early in the winter for us in Bradenton Florida.

These are just wonderful pictures. I am sorry to hear you were out of power. But, wow, a new washing machine is great. Your pictures always remind of the time we spent living in Maine.

Tell MM it’s cold down here too and at least you guys have pretty white snow. Everything down this way is just dead, brown and ugly!!

I am so so happy to hear mother and baby are home and doing well! You must still be floating on cloud nine!!

Brrr it looks cold up there! We’ve been pretty lucky here in our part of Kansas with temps in the mid to high 50′s last week. I can’t even remember the last rain we had….a mist in November and maybe a sprinkle in October but the last hard rain was back in August! Tonight it’s going down to 13 but no snow in the forecast…sigh. Enjoy your new front load washer!

Visiting your snow is more than enough for me. It is most beautiful at your Vermont home but I wouldn’t want to be that cold. It is only in the low 50′s here at night but that’s enough of a chill to suit me.
