Because

Perhaps because it’s Sunday;
Or perhaps because it’s so hot my brain is having trouble forming complete sentences;
Or maybe it’s because I got neutral news from the doctor on Friday; not worse; not better; just the same; two more weeks of staying still;
Whatever the reason (or excuse) I thought instead of writing, I’d share farm scenes today.
Enough rambling.
My turkey hen decided last week she was sick of being Mom. She and her babies were in my barn but she’d had enough. I tried turning them out with the other birds last weekend but it didn’t work.
Back into the barn they went. Momma Turkey complained loudly all week but I knew she wasn’t having any more of it when I found her in the loft this morning hiding from her brood.
Okay, I’ll put them with the others and see how it goes. In the pen they went. Momma Turkey went running leaving her brood perplexed but they soon settled in. The turklets enjoyed soaking up the sun.

They tried stretching their tiny wings.

And they checked out the nest boxes. Lin, are you going to name the turklets for me?

But, the brood still wanted their Mom who was busy having a spa day in the dirt. Before long, she had company. Her babies found her. Those tiny ones are guinea keets.

She might not be interested in being a mother any longer but her babies sure think she is the best.

I’m finding it very hard to drag myself away from the coop as are the horses and donkeys. We’re bush hogging their pasture at the moment and we’ve moved them to a different area and they spend their days also entranced by chicks.

Donkeys too.

Sometimes they stop and tell secrets.

But we are all fascinated by life in the coop. I can’t spend all my day here. Goslings are waiting. Don’t know if you can tell from the picture but they are starting to turn white.

They dine on grass and try to steal strands from each other.
They’re learning to pose for the camera.

And I guess I could show you dozens more pictures but it’s time to head home. One stop to check on my giant pumpkins. They love the new spot Mountain Man made for them and I’m hoping to see boy and girl blossoms soon. This year, I know what to look for.

Because I love this farm so much and all the animals here and, oh, yes, Mountain Man too, all is right in my world.
Thanks for visiting us. How are you doing this hot weekend?

You do have lots of babies. I can’t imagine mom forsaking them though. Just can imagine.
We went to the boat this weekend and enjoy some mild weather and some of our boating buddies. Excellent weekend.
Have a terrific day.

Oh, all those babies are so CUTE…I’m sorry about turklets turkey mama who’s more interested in spa days in dirt, then her babies. It’s funny, because they found her
)
Oh, life on a farm…just beautiful and naturally funny, too
I wonder what secrets your animals tell
Enjoy your weekend
This weekend my dad and I stayed home…well, on Saturday. We went to church today. It was hot and the church I go to meets in an old Grange bulding with no air condtioning…at least, none today… Now we’re home. My dad is looking for the flathead yellow-handled screwdriver. I’m sitting at the c omputer reading blogs. Later on I’ll do some crafting
Have a great week. Love and hugs from Oregon , Heather

Your goslings certainly have learned to ham it up for the camera! I’m surprised the mom would hide from her babies.
Gerard and I played tennis yesterday and after church today went to my work’s summer event at the zoo–they provided a free lunch buffet (hamburgers, hotdogs, fruit, chicken and cookies), pop, snow cones and took our picture! It was HOT!

Like a sauna out today in central Florida. Take it easy, let your eye heal. Waiting is hard when you have so many things to do and see on the farm. I’m waiitng on the geese to be all grown and in their frilly frocks! Hugs!

I had a lot of catching up to do, and I’m so glad I did – your eye!!!!!! I, too see these lightening-like streaks, but only occasionally; I often have floaters. Thinking now I’ll have it checked out ASAP.
All your babies are adorable as always, and yes, the white is definitely showing!
Stay well!

Baby pics are always so cute. I love the big animals too. Thanks for sharing. It has been hot in WV lately too, but this weekend I traveled with Mom to KC to see my brother ordained as a deacon and now we are in Iowa waiting for the most recent cutest nephew in the world to be born – and watching Sesame Street with the original CNW.
And it has been HOT.

The chicks are certainly growing up, eventually they all must leave the nest and become independent of their mom. Now that they know that Motherhood is a really demanding job, do you think perhaps next nesting season the turkeys won’t be so eager to hatch all the other bird’s eggs along with their own ?
BTW – I did a post on my blog about your lovely Red Pine Mountain. I hope it will encourage a few of my lovely readers to come over and visit. If they do, I’m sure they will enjoy your mountain paradise as much as I do.

I have been having a wonderful time. The very best friend of my life – Martha Genin – my nursing school classmate and friend of 49 years has been here almost two weeks now, from New Orleans, and we have been playing, laughing, talking, eating out a lot, and just relishing our time together. We went up to West Sacramento for three days with my middle son and his wife and my two granddogs and have also spent times with my oldest who is Martha’s godson and my youngest, Jeremy. I will be sad when she leaves on Wednesday but I am so glad we had this time together, the longest since our nursing school days!
Your babies are growing by leaps and bounds. It is such fun to see their progress!

Oh wow, how surreal your life seems to me. I don’t know how you and MM have the energy to do all the things you do in a day, I sure wish I had the health and energy to do what you do!
Such wonderful photos, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your paradise with us

What fun to see the wonders of your farm! My kids grew up in the country on a “hobby farm”—since we both had jobs in town. At various times we had fowl and cattle, and a horse who was more of a pet than our dogs and cats. It was a great way for the kids to grow up but nowadays we live in town. I miss having lots of room and land, though.
I’m visiting from Karen&Gerard’s. Love your blog!

I hope all is well, dear one. Just checking in since you haven’t post in a bit. I’m in the doldrums since my friend left Wednesday…on a big crying jag yesterday…so much pain from my arthritis..feeling sorry for myself which is something I so seldom do. I hate being this way.

Hey there! Just got back from visiting my parents in PA and my sister near you, in the Northeast Kingdom, for a bit. My kids did not want to come home! Much nicer weather than here in FL. Plus, the kids could run until their little hearts were content and roll around and, actually, sit in the grass without worrying about fire ants attacking. My oldest, 7 1/2, got to milk sweet Annabelle, and my 2 1/2 yr old loved chasing the chickens aroung. My oldest, also, loved hanging with the herd of sheep. Boy, are they loud!
Anyway, did not get on the computer while away and was just checking in to see what was going on at Red Pine Mountain. Stay well and God bless!
