Beauty All Around

I appreciate all your Thanksgiving well wishes. I had some questions about the turkeys and the answer is no, we didn’t eat anyone although way back when they first arrived, that was my plan. But that was before I got to know them.
Do you have a favorite season? A time of year that makes you feel all is right with the world? For me, it’s winter. Some of you might groan when you think of temperatures so cold it hurts to breathe but not me. And I’ll show you why.
We awoke yesterday morning to the first ice storm of the year and I had to hurry outside. Everything has a beauty; even the old asparagus fronds. I suppose I could complain about the footing underneath fraught with icy peril but I won’t. It’s one of the times I’m grateful for being so short and close to the ground.

A hush descends on the farm creating a feeling of exquisite isolation.

The air is bitter cold but I refuse to be pushed inside. And as I’m wandering our farm, it begins to snow. My tom turkey takes refuge while guineas continue to wander undaunted by the increasing flakes.

And leave hieroglyphic trails in their wake.

As quickly as the snow starts, it stops and a mist beings to rise from the mountains.

I look to my left and there is a break in the clouds.

And behind me, at the top of the pasture, more blue appears.

Can you see the magic? Feel the majesty of winter?

If I turn to look at our farm, the sky is still leaden.

And as I head inside, I look off to the pasture again.

In one sky, so many variations. Each one breathtaking and unique. Do you see why I love winter?

I’m kind of partial to Spring but I like winter too with sledding, hot chocolate, snowmen, and manly snowblowers. It’s a lot of fun driving around in the snow and it’s especially relaxing to sit in the book store, look out through the big glass windows, and watch the snow fall while sipping on a big mug of coffee. It’s almost like living inside a Courier and Ives painting. Although we have had our first snow here, the ground wasn’t cold enough to hold it very long. The five foot snowmen of the neighborhood fell apart after the first day and completely melted away by the third day. Alas, they will be resurrected many times before the warmth of spring time sun shines once again.
Have a great Vermont Day in the snow.

You have such beautiful farm. I know I have said that before but the pictures you take and the descriptions you give them make it like I have never seen them before.
I sincerely hope you had a wonderful Holiday.

Now, those are some turkey tracks! Beautiful pictures as always. We get ice storms here and the trees look beautiful. I am always glad to be safe in the house when they come.

WHEW! I was really worried that someone would be missing and I’m so glad they are not. I had to ask Melodie over at Laughing Duck Farm–although I haven’t heard news from over there yet. I shudder to think.
Anywho—I love all the seasons. I even like winter when it first begins to snow. For the most part, I grow tired of every season by the time the next one begins. That is why I’m glad I live where we have such varied and unique seasons. I’d be bored with only one season!

Much love and thanks for sharing beautiful images as usual.

I see magic, I see the glory of nature

I love all seasons, just so long as I’m not spending too much time outdoors in our frigid winters – winters here are best observed through a large window I find

how gorgeous. Yes, I see why you so love winter.
Same here, by the way, with the turkey situation. There was no way we (or anyone else for that matter) was eating that Giblet baby. He thinks he is half human.

Well, I don’t think I could say winter is my favorite…spring, summer, fall…those I love. I love the long summer days I think the best. Now Terry he would agree with you.
And this year…I’m sick of the wind and I never EVER thought I would say THAT in my lifetime.

This makes me plain jealous I tell you. I miss those crispy cold days up north and sledding down the hill behind my old elementary school. You’re very lucky to have such a view all the time.

Each season has its own particular beauty.
The mountain looks lovely in its frosted gown and you’ve captured it all wonderfully in your photos and in your words.
