Around The Farm

I’ve been walking the dogs with Mountain Man every morning. We’re out early.

It’s indescribably beautiful this time of year with the leaves starting to turn colors.

And if I play with the picture, manipulate the image just a little bit, it reminds me of a fairy tale land. It’s how I picture our farm; the Enchanted Forest.

But enough dreaming. There’s so much work to be done. Mountain Man is busy building a new shed for the shavings. The old one buckled in the storm this spring. First step, tear down the old one.

I wish I could stay but there’s barn chores to do. Always time though to kiss a sweet face.

Off to clean chicken coops. The peacock, some chicks and some guinea babies are still separated from the main group. I’ve learned pea chicks grow very slowly.

The Nekkid Neck chick is growing. I still think he’s adorable.

I have some other unusual breeds. Here’s a picture of my Mille Fleur d’Uccle bantam. They are tiny chickens whose name means “a thousand flowers” because of their feathers. They are sweet, ornamental chickens.

Even though the nights are cool, the days have been warm. My turkey hen’s new favorite game is to splash in a pan of water. She’ll actually squat down in it and then toss water around.

Hours later barn chores are done and my time is my own. It’s off to visit Midnight and trail ride with a friend.

Back home again and there’s more chores to do. But I don’t mind. There’s a wonderful rhythm to life on a farm. Here’s looking at you and wishing you wonderful fall days.

We have great weather until the end of October. I do remember having shorter summers when I lived in Oregon. It rained all the time too. I didn’t care for that at all.

All your babies are precious.

Have a terrific day. :)

That is a beautiful shot of your forest with all the different color leaves. Ours haven’t started to change color yet, which is fine with me. Glad you had time to go for a ride!

Your photos are incredible, I particularly love the first two as they are so tranquil and are indeed like looking into paradise.

Sara you have so many different birds, it is amazing. Many I have never heard of before, let alone seen.

When our girls were young we had parakeets and cockatiels, both of which enjoyed an occasional bath, especially when the weather was hot. We no longer own any birds but we do have a number of local hawks and have witnessed at least one of them bathe in our neighbor’s pond. A soaking wet bird is much like a soaking wet cat … not a very pretty sight. LOL
With all of Ms. Turkey’s feathers I’m sure she’s more of a “sponge bather” and doesn’t soak herself to the skin. :)
