A Week of Ordinary

This week was filled with the ordinary details of life. There was nothing especially noteworthy to share but every day was important to me.
Mountain Man returned from a week away last Saturday.
Our first winter storm started on Monday but it fizzled quickly and deposited less than one inch of snow.
Our temperatures plummeted and the remaining pasture disappeared under a heavy layer of frost.
The wind lashed Red Pine Mountain and weather forecasters started adding wind chill factors to the daily reports.
I went riding each day determined not to let the frigid temperatures derail me.
As I lost the feeling in my fingers, I learned why Mountain Man has repeatedly told me I won’t be doing much riding this winter. I persisted anyway.
I encountered many deer in our yard, foraging for the last of the apples from our leafless tree.
I thought about deer season which starts today. Red Pine Mountain now has posted signs all around its perimeter and I’m glad we made the difficult decision to keep our mountain private and a refuge for animals.
Yesterday, warmth returned and Khrysta, lured by the sunshine that had all but disappeared, climbed the mountain to her napping place. I joined her and had the incomparable experience once again of a snoring horse sleeping deeply on my lap, perhaps for the last time this year.
I read that noted author Danielle Steele is starting a blog. She, who tends to be a private person, wants to be more accessible to her public. I thought about her accomplishments and how I would like to become a published author. Do I have the discipline that requires? I’m not sure yet.
I thought about my writing professor who told me that blogs are a distraction because they promise instant feedback and instant gratification. If I blog can I write a book? Would I rather blog? Why can’t I do both?
I turned off the computer and let my blog stand idle to see if the answer would come to me.
Life happened this week. Nothing out of the ordinary but it is during times of quiet where a sea change occurs.

You could write a book and still blog, why not? You are a very interesting writer. I always enjoy reading your blog. I encourage you to give it a try if it’s something you think you’d like to do, go for it! What have you got to lose?

I hope you chose both…..I guess for selfish reasons if I am honest though, cause I love your blog and I am sure I would love your book!

We can understand what you’ve been thinking about.
My mom is in awe of you riding in the cold weather – she’s a warm desert person now, even though she grew up in the midwest. “Cold” to her means fireplaces, furnaces, blankies!
