A Mountain Man Kind Of Hike

I hurt my knee the other day. Mountain Woman + Ab Circle Pro + Exuberant Newf = disaster. I discovered I’m more pain free if I’m up and walking so I had the bright idea of asking Mountain Man to go for a hike. He’s been wanting to mark one of our property lines with a GPS he borrowed. Off we went.

Now, if you hike with Mountain Man, there’s not much time for lingering for photo ops but I had to stop for this moss I found growing on a log.

Reminded me of seashells but we’re on a mission. Got to get moving. We arrived at one of our property lines and Mountain Man entered the data.

And off we went; into the underbrush and all down hill.

And if you think there is a path, well, there isn’t. Sometimes it all boiled down to which grove of trees to enter.

And as I walked through dense trees and heard Mountain Man’s voice “watch out for holes under the logs,” I prayed I wouldn’t fall into a bear cave. I kept chanting, “Please God, don’t let me find a bear” over and over again.

God was surely watching over me because we arrived safely at the Water Andric.

Logan couldn’t resist a short swim.

But Mountain Man is on a mission. No time for play. He’s disappearing into the underbrush again and all I can think about are bears attacking. Wait for me!!

It was quite the obstacle course.

One log after another.

But we finally got where we were going and it’s time to test the GPS to plot our property line. Hmm, it says we’ve hiked 53 miles. And although it feels like 553 miles, we know it isn’t.

Mountain Man does what no man usually does; he pulled out the directions to see what happened.

While Mountain Man is busy trying to figure the darn thing out, I decide to look around for bear caves and I find this beautiful red ground cover.

And I also found this which Mountain Man told me is coyote poop with the fur from whatever the coyote ate sticking to it. EEEWWW! That made me think of bears again.

The fearless Mountain Man thinks he has the GPS figured out and off we go. This time all uphill.

I didn’t take any pictures as we made the ascent. I was too busy trying to breathe and watching for bear holes.

And now that we’re back, I’m so exhausted, I can no longer feel my knee.

Thanks for visiting us and have a wonderful day!

Now that’s a hike and then some. I’m guessing he didn’t even get winded. That’s my take in any event. I loves me a good hike, but I’m not so sure I could keep up with you or mountain man.

Have a terrific day. :)

I don’t know how it is possible that your place is even MORE beautiful every time you go out. I love that moss that looks like seashells. Hope your knee is feeling a bit better.

Okay, now I’m even MORE jealous of your life on that property!! Mtn Man would have no problems finding the property lines here–they are literally right in front of our nose! Ugh.

The only hike here is to the fridge for a cool drink, Sara. :)

Cool Hike! Rather on the rough side, but sometimes those are the best. Your mountain is LOVELY!

Thanks for a wonderful walk through your woods. It’s not quite hiking weather here yet, and I couldn’t have covered the brush like you did so the trip was especially appreciated. You explained your day so beautifully that I felt that you took me along–thank you!

That was quite a hike! I had to chuckle, because you and Mountain Man are like me and my Mr.4444 in our styles of hiking :) Glad you made it home safely, and I hope your knee is better :)

The fungus growing on the bark of the tree is really very pretty and it is interesting how nature repeats favorite designs such an ocean’s seashell.

53 miles is quite a hike ! I think I would have been sitting down on a log after 1 mile and telling my spouse to go back and fetch the car. LOL

I love where you live! I am in CT and sort of in the boonies of what little boonies this small state has, Friday I drove down my road home from work and a bear crossed the road into the neighbors yard, I got a picture of it’s butt, because he was in a hurry to get away from me chasing it (in my car) but it sure was quite large!

Wow, that is some hike! To be honest, I probably would have pulled out the directions, too. You know, to cover the fact that I NEED a rest! Have a terrific day and I really hope your knee gets to feeling better soon.
