2010; A Retrospective

Hello again everyone! I hope all of you had wonderful holidays. I thought I’d ring in the new year by recapping 2010.

Last winter found us in the Ozarks. Mountain Man worked diligently on the house.

Although I tried to make the best of it, I was homesick and in February, we returned once again to our mountain and my spirits soared. “There’s no place like home.”

Spring brought lots of changes. More animals joined our farm. Mini horses.

And donkeys.

In May, I had my first encounter with a bear at our door and I learned just how scary wild animals can be.

In June, chicks, guineas and turkeys arrived.

I planted giant pumpkins seeds and when week after week went by without pumpkin blossoms, I learned even in the plant world, males are needed for reproduction. I helped the process along and soon had pumpkins.

The turkeys, who were supposed to be dinner, soon morphed into something else entirely as I learned just how intelligent and friendly they are. I spent time teaching them all sorts of things and soon they learned proper table manners.

And while I wandered in magical woods and spent time with my beloved animals

Every day found Mountain Man hard at work. Renovating the old barn.

Or knee deep in other projects. Not one day was he idle.

In September, we learned our beloved Faeden was dying of bone cancer and over the holidays, we knew the time had come to bid him farewell. Our loving vet made his journey to the Rainbow Bridge one of peace and I am forever in his debt for taking such good care of my special boy. Here’s the last picture of my angel.

And while we mourned the loss of our beloved Faeden, we welcomed a new baby, a first grandchild, into our lives.

2010; a year of joy; a year of loss. Every day filled with wonder and enchantment. Life is ephemeral and each moment a gift. And while I know we will face challenges in the year ahead, I resolve to treasure that which is around me and to dwell in the beauty of the daily routine that is our life.

Thank you for visiting us. Each and every one of you who stop by are special to me.

I’m so sorry to hear about Faeden. You knew when the time was right to let him go as difficult as it was. No more suffering, no more pain. Hope he makes friends with my Blitz at the Rainbow Bridge. What a beautiful little boy you have there! Do they live anywhere near you? Wishing you the best of peace and joy in the New Year up there on the mountain with MM. To Faeden, good night sweet prince! Hugs!

This is a good post of your year in review. I didn’t realize you originally intended to cook those turkeys! Maybe you should consider calling your farm an animal sanctuary. So sorry to hear your beloved dog, Faeden died. I’m sure that broke your heart but he did have a lot of good years with you. That’s really nice the vet came to your home. Congratulations on your first grandchild!

Thank you for that wonderful post! I have enjoyed reading your blog this past year. It warms my heart that you fell in love with your birds and that they will not be meals after all! You also have the hardest working husband I have ever seen! Looking forward to reading in the next year!

You’ve come full circle this year. Life and death, heartache and joy. I always enjoy my visits here, even though they sometimes make me weep, as did this one. Have a wonderful New Year.
And goodnight, Faeden.

It was certainly a busy year and it’s hard to believe it was May that a certain bear came calling!

My thoughts are with Faeden, and that he is waiting peacefully across that bridge and with your new grandchild, who may only know a life of peace, love and faith.

All the best to you and Mountain Man.

I’m also so sorry to hear about the loss of your Faeden. At least you were able to give him the gift of letting him go when it was time.

Your grandchild will fill your heart to overflowing in ways you could never imagine. Blessings to all of you.

So sorry about your beloved pet… I guess his loss is balanced by the new birth of a grandchild.

All in all, it looks as if you’ve had many treasures along the way last year. Here’s to many more!

This country girl at heart who now lives in the suburbs, loves coming to your blog to escape vicariously into your farm and your woods, and to read about your furry and feathered family–and also your ‘energizer bunny’ who just keeps going and going! :-) Maybe one of these days I can find a few minutes to post something on my own blog–but better not hold your breath!

Happy New Year!

I can certainly see why you were homesick. 2010 sure did bring us obstacles but if there was not any than life would not be normal. I wish you all the health and luck for 2011.

That is quiet a year to reflect upon. Amazing how much happens in a short 12 months. It all seems to go by so quickly. *sigh* I am glad I am documenting some of my days with the blogging. It’s a good thing.

Though the holidays are now behind us I’ve been having a difficult time getting back into the swing of things, especially where the internet is concerned. Guess I’ll just take baby-steps until I get my full stride back.
2010 certainly had it’s millstones from joyous occasions to somber, unfortunately such is life’s palette along with the sunny yellow, red and gold we have the sullen black, brown and deepest, darkest blues.
Here’s wishing you the brightest, sunniest 2011. May it be blessed with good health for all, great joy and much love.
